[Regarding Southern Baptists finally coming around to recognize global warming and what they need to do about it]
Since I'm Baptist, wouldn't the large membership of the Southern Baptist Convention be better served by fighting those who are trying to degrade and do away with Christianity, the use of God in public places, Prayer in every location except the churches, etc, etc, etc.? Instead of taking up a cause considered nonexistant to many, do something that would really make a difference in the world.

-considered- nonexistant to many.
*headdesk*
If only you got rid of that qualifier, that ONE WORD, you'd at least be internally consistent (and just a little more confident than most that your cause IS existant). As it stands, I think you'd better look at what you just typed over again.
It really IS Irony Month on FSTDT.
Prayer in every location except the churches
As long as there are tests, there will be prayer in schools...
taking up a cause considered nonexistant to many
Oh, who cares about the world heating up, the ecosystem being ruined, and species becoming extinct? There's abortions to stop and non-believers to preach at!
Prayer in every location except the churches, etc, etc, etc.?
Matthew 6:6
Instead of taking up a cause considered nonexistant to many, do something that would really make a difference in the world.
Matthew 25:31-46
There's more to the Bible than just what Paul wrote.
Also, having "dominion over the Earth" implies we need to take care of it, or there won't be anything to dominion over.
Since you're a baptist, you'd better think the way your elders tell you to think, or else you'll go to hell.
"Fighting". That's what it's all about, innit?
"Instead of taking up a cause considered nonexistant(sic) to many, do something that would really make a difference in the world."
Well said. Bassackwards, though.
"do something that would really make a difference in the world."
You already have, now we're asking for you to help fix it.
Ok, following your logic, I would ask Baptists to stop complaining about the use of soft drugs. Many people don't believe they are dangerous. And anyway, if Global Warming turns out to be true, in which struggling civilisation are you going to pray, use God in which public places, etc..........?. And anyway, wasn't Jesus the least concerned with those things(see Matthew and his opinion of praying and the use of "God" in public places)?. It may make a difference....................depending in what. Didn't you say that many people don't believe it anyway?, in which way are you "different" from the average fundy?. Since when is science a popularity contest? and if the guys who are against it are looneys or five years old kids who are pulling your leg?
I am afraid that:
1. people are not trying to degrade and do away with Christianity.
2. it unconstitutional to have the idea of God displayed prominently in public places
3. prayer, like the idea of God, has no place in the public arena (though you are still free to pray wherever you damn please as long as you are not the one at the podium, or in front of the classroom).
4. your delusions of persecution are showing.
and
5. global warming has far more support and far more credibility than your perceptions of being persecuted have. The same goes for your God (at least the credibility portion of it anyway).
Nice try. Next time, please refrain from comments until you are fully connected to reality. Thank you.
Genesis 1:28
"And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it : and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth."
It doesn't say do what you want with the earth, and the dominion is over the creatures of the earth, not the earth itself.
Regardless of that, dominion over the earth is not necessarily tyrannical dominion over the earth. You could, you know, try being benevolent for once.
Of course, who cares about saving the environment? I mean, obviously, the war on other religions/sexualities/cultures takes priority over a little thing like caring for the planet we live on.
For the record, this is why I can't stand fundies.
do something that would really make a difference in the world.
You've been praying for two thousand years, and it's done squat. Why are you so convinced that just a bit longer will achieve anything?
Yes. Why bother with the climate changes and associated ecological issues? Why is it important to look after the world our kids will be living in?
Let's do something that REALLY matters and force our eco-ignorance on everyone else! THAT'LL SURE MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD.
Mass extinction for Jesus.
God is paramount because our life is just a waystation to eternity, I know. Been there, heard that.
You're forgetting one thing, though. Unless you know for a fact, without a shred, a smidgen of a doubt, when exactly God will Ctr-Alt-Del Creation 1.0 to install v2 (hence giving humanity a firm deadline), your advocacy of inaction in the face of the great challenge of Global Warming will most likely, if heeded, lead to what can only be termed ecological devastation on a global scale. In other words, bequeathing to future generations an unlivable planet.
Am I mistaken in thinking this is arrogant to such a degree you may well have invented another Cardinal Sin?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
