(The following is only the beginning of a rather misinformed rant)
We turned to science for answers and now science is turning on us. Vaccines have caused many viruses to mutate and now we have super viruses, many people are getting hit with plagues. This is the horseman of pestilence. Food got genetically modified by gene splicing or grown hormones, but now GM wheat makes up 85% of our wheat and has gone bad as it mutated and cattle had growth hormones applied to them which also went bad and now we have beef recalls. We will soon have a food shortage and prices will go up and people will starve. This is the horseman of famine.

Oddly enough, there is a biblical case for one speaking (or at least, singing) out of ones ass, as OrionBlastar seems to be.
"Wherefore my bowels shall sound like an harp for Moab, and mine inward parts for Kir-haresh."
-- Isaiah 16:11.
Unsurprisingly, these Horsemen were invented before the agricultural reforms and hygienic improvements in the end of the Middle Ages/Renaissance.
You haven't seen anything like the Black Death. If your horseman was to come, he'd have come then.
Vaccines have caused many viruses to mutate and now we have super viruses
So it was better to die of smallpox in the first place, instead of trying to get the upper hand? Oh, and it's the overuse of antibiotics that is the main cause of "superbugs"
GM wheat makes up 85% of our wheat and has gone bad as it mutated
Does anyone else have visions of "Attack of the giant corn cobs!"?
cattle had growth hormones applied to them which also went bad and now we have beef recalls
Although I do disagree with the overuse of hormones and antibiotics in meat, and try to get mine fresh from the farm. Beef recalls are usually e-coli related. This is caused by bad processing when the feces that was in the gut has contaminated the meat. I've heard other reasons why e-coli get in the meat, but I'll leave that for others as this one is disgusting enough.
OB the Misinformed,
You seem to suffer some confusion about industrial beef production. I know more about what's in your dinner than you and I'm a fucking vegan, so apparently you could use a little refresher course.
Here goes:
E coli is an intestinal virus in cows. When humans get it that means there's shit in their food. Your man titties come from added growth hormones in the meat (probably with an assist from all that fat in your diet.) Get it right damn it, science worked hard to give you those sweet knockers.
This has nothing to do with any mythical horsemen, and everything to do with capitalism. You want cheap meat and the companies that raise and slaughter animals want to turn a tidy profit, so to reconcile those two desires they cut corners, use hormones to grow bigger animals with less feed and speed up the line at the slaughterhouse.
For you that means cheap hamburgers, luscious moobies and the occasional bout of explosive diarrhea, for the investor in the ag company it means another Lexus payment and for the line worker at the slaughterhouse it means a finger that couldn't be saved. If this stupid and destructive situation fulfills some prophecy, it's more likely to lurk in das Capital than in teh holy babble.
Cite please, these plagues. FYI virii have always mutated, hence why you can catch the flu every year, as it's a new viral strain.
Over use of antibiotics have made resistant bacteria, but new antibiotics and new usage of said medications have curbed that.
GM food isn't' the bogeyman you make it out to be. Making rice have a higher vitamin A content so blindness is prevented is a good thing. GM food made resistant to certain fungus and pests is a good thing.
The meat recalls are due to E-Coli, which means the meat was contaminated with the cow's gut/intestines during processing.
Go hide under your blanket until you decide that being a doom-cryer isn't' all it's cracked up to be.
One, vaccines are a way to create DEFENSES against a pathogen. It doesn't generate "superviruses". You're confusing it with antibiotics and bacteriae. And scientists are not as worried as they used to be. They create new anti-biotics and, sooner or later, the bug dies(besides, it's a problem generated by the ABUSE of antibiotics, not by antibiotics themselves).
And Genetically Modified Food is created through gene manipulation and crossing, NOT SPLICING or hormones. If you're going to rant AT LEAST INFORM YOURSELF.
LM - E. Coli isn't a virus, it's a bacterium.
It always cracks me up when someone is correcting another and adds in other mistakes. It reminds me of my sisters:
Sister 1: I sure love Mosquito potato chips.
Sister 2: It isn't mosquito! It's called Mesquat!
Though, I'm sure I've made similar mistakes!
Someone needs to read their bible.
The four horsemen are
1. War
2. Strife
3. Famine
4. Death
Pestilence is a common misconception.
Yet another fundie against vaccination and basic hygiene. Colonial graveyards are full of infants and toddlers. I just did a family history, and just over a hundred years ago, people were dropping like flies from tuberculosis ("consumption"), diphtheria, scarlet fever, and other illnesses I don't have to worry about. I'm glad I got my childhood shots, it's worth the risk.
Pure fundie gold!
"Vaccines have caused many viruses to mutate and now we have super viruses, many people are getting hit with plagues."
But wait, fundies constantly preach to us that mutations can't result in an increase in genetic information.
"...but now GM wheat makes up 85% of our wehat and has gone bad as it mutated...."
Evidence that our wheat has gone bad? And look there's those damn mutations again!
"...and cattle has growth hormones applied to them which also went bad and now we have beef recalls."
Beef recalls have nothing to do with growth hormones.
"We turned to science for answers and now science is turning on us."
You're watching too many bad Sci-Fi movies.
"Vaccines have caused many viruses to mutate and now we have super viruses, many people are getting hit with plagues."
Vaccines do not cause viruses to mutate. Viruses mutate on their own on a rather consistent basis and new vaccines are developed to fight them, not the other way around.
"This is the horseman of pestilence."
Where!? I always wanted to see him. I picture him as a decomposing zombie atop his zombified horse with flies buzzing around them. Is that what he looks like? Am I close?
"Food got genetically modified by gene splicing or grown hormones, but now GM wheat makes up 85% of our wheat and has gone bad as it mutated and cattle had growth hormones applied to them which also went bad and now we have beef recalls."
Say what?
"We will soon have a food shortage and prices will go up and people will starve. This is the horseman of famine."
Oooh! Cool. Another one. Does he look like a dessicated corpse atop a bone steed? How come you religious nuts get to see all the cool stuff?
Genetically modified wheat? Corn, yes. Soybeans, yes. But wheat? Where is he getting this number?
Vaccines have caused many viruses to mutate and now we have super viruses, many people are getting hit with plagues.
Vaccines don't "cause" viruses to mutate. They just mutate by themselves. When one manages to avoid the vaccine, it proliferates by natural selection. It's an arms race. What's the alternative? Just disarm and let the viruses kill us? We produce vaccines by intelligent design and the viruses adapt via Darwinian evolution. My money's on the viruses in the long run.
Actually the four horsemen have been gone for some time. We now have the Four Redheads of the Apocalypse, and while they're pretty, they're not quite so powerful. At a convention recently, only War was able to show up the first day. Pestilence was suffering from a bad cold, Famine had food poisoning, and Death had some sort of work-related emergency (ha, you thought I was going to say that she had died, didn't you?). War was pretty nervous, I can tell you -- she kept expecting some random attack resulting in injury!
~David D.G.
Where the hell are these plagues?
Let's see, around the turn of the century, more people were dying from the unsanitary conditions of our food. Thank you science for solving that.
Diseases are far more treatable now than ever...yes, even leprosy. Thank you, again, science.
We have beef recalls because some farms are NOT maintaining the proper food standards, not because we have mutant cows running around.
Look, you dumb fuck, I have my GED and even I know more about these things than you do. What's your excuse?
"We turned to science for answers and now science is turning on us."
Oh God my apparatus is rebelling! No, get back you damned bunsen burner! Help! My petri dishes are climbing up my trouser legs, get them out! Aaargh! Struck down from behind... et tu, whiteboard?
Hhhhmmmmm someone needs to get a textbook and read up on:
the agricultural revolution (it happened about 13,000 years ago, it's when man started domesticating wild plants such as almonds (wild almonds are toxic, domestic, not)
the bubonic plague, the Spanish flu etc etc
Ah fuck it, just read in bloody general (bible doesn't count!)
And are you the horseman of stupidity?
"Vaccines have caused many viruses to mutate and now we have super viruses, many people are getting hit with plagues."
You mean that they *gasp* evolved!?!?!?!
Do you know what really causes pestilence? Not having any vaccines at all! Do you know what really causes famine? Not having the means to produce the food in the first place! Do you know what is worst than scientific applications to our lives going awry? Having no scientific application to our life at all!
You are the horseman of ignorance.
I can't wait to hear about War and Death.
Also, isn't Conquest a more traditional horseman than Pestilence (much to my dislike)?
The viruses were already mutating, stupid, which is why we need new vaccines almost every year. The overuse of antibiotics have caused bacteria to evolve resistance against them.
By definition, it's a plague when many people at the same time are hit with the same potentially lethal disease.
We had recalls earlier this year because there were horse-meat sold as beef-meat. There were suspicions that the horse-meat were old racing-horses that had had lots of antibiotics pumped into them, as they were not intended for human consumption.
Didn’t Pestilence retire after the penicillin was discovered? I think it was replaced by Pollution.
(And don’t forget the Fifth Horseman, Ronny soaK, who left the group before it became famous.)
More like viruses mutate being a cause for vaccines. We're the ones turning on these viruses repeatedly. Mind you the common cold keeps mutating like crazy. I do think water and food shortage aren't impossibilities in the near future though.
PS: Pestilence retired, and we're half over conquest (read: colonisation).
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
