It's so amazing how some atheists are intelligent people that can see through lies in politics, but still be incredibly blind about religion. I guess it's just compartmentalization. They think about all the parts of their lives except the one that matters most.

I have thought about religion. And, I've decided that it is not for me. It is a pack of lies and manipulation and controlling and judgmental and full of anger and hatred. This thinking, intelligent person has used her mind and chosen not to have anything to do with it.
Funny, but I used to think exactly the same sentiment about my friends in a fundie church. Many of them were highly intelligent, yet their biblical brainwashing was ironclad, and they would turn their considerable intellect into knots in their interpretations of the Bible, but at all costs would refuse to even consider the notion that it was hogwash.

The most irritating part of this is the implication that we don't care enough about religion. For many of us, we cared enough about "what matters most" to not take whatever beliefs we grew up with for granted, but to challenge and examine their validity - and, it just so happens, what most of us atheists grew up with, when raised in religious homes, was a bunch of crap.
Funny, my daughter has two atheist parents, yet she goes to a Christian junior school, sings hymns, talks about God and has given up her MP3 player for lent. She knows I don't believe in God, and will answer any questions she has as to why if asked, but it is her life and I'm not going to attempt to indoctrinate her in the contemptible way I see many very religious people do with their children.
The part of my, my daughter's and - in my view - everybody's life that matters most is the freedom to learn different views and the freedom to choose your own. That is what I'm giving my daughter, freedom to make up her own mind about God. After all, there's no guarantee I'm right!
So where are the fundie parents who are happy to let their children grow up to be atheists, Muslims, Pagans, Hindus or Sikhs then?
It's a little thing called freedom. I personally do not need a layer of [dubious quality] government over my morals and ethics. My parents taught me correctly.
I personally do not need a ludicrous fairy tale about any supposed afterlife. Whatever happens, happens. Or, more likely, not happens. That's the definition of death, you know.
What does religion really have to offer? As I read it:
Guilt
Shame
Doubt
Fear
Nah. I'm here for a good time.
Oh, so atheists are only intelligent when they see through politician lies, but if they see through RELIGIOUS lies, they are suddenly stupid.
Your logic just underwhelms me.
Yes, it is incredible how the intelligent and perceptive can see through the smoke and mirrors of religion.
I'll choose to take that entry as a compliment.
Confused?
