Er... Insects are actually an excellent source of protein, fat and carbohydrates (from their shells). I do not see any problem with eating insects. Snakes are quite delicious. If you ask me, this guy must have misinterpreted the extra-polite manner in which all japanese shop and restaurant owners will greet you (and the bowing! lol! Think he might have misinterpreted their greetings as submissive gestures?) and misinterpreted it as respect toward himself in particular.

2- All those foods you listed are actually quite healthy, high in protein and what not. Although I personally doubt they eat rats and monkies, parasites being what they are.
