The pope is God. Yes, I know this sounds crazy but since he is Christ's vicar on earth one could say that he is Christ on earth. He and his/Christ's church is the only contact we have with God until Jesus returns. Because Christ is God, one could therefore say that the Pope is God on earth. Indeed, one of the Roman Pontiff's titles is "Vicar of God" so it's quite correct to say that he is God on earth or at least a temporary replacement for God/the Son of God.

Since the pope is theologically infallible, at least when speaking Ex Cathedra, one can argue that criticizing the official standpoint of the Pope and the Church is criticizing God because God created the church and made it preach what He wanted it to preach. So you are technically blaspheming God when debating Catholics.
