In 1980, I was 20 years old. I was working as a Cablevision installer/tech and worked with 5-6 other 20-something guys.
David B. was an ardent atheist, and a very good friend. He explained to me one day:
"Mark, you can SEE evolution at work all around you. I can show you people who are still evolving. Look at the blacks here in Jackson, their noses, faces - compare a full-blooded African face to an ape's face.
See it? Blacks are obviously lower on the evolutionary scale than we are."
From that day forward, evolution became, to me, intellectualized racism. Nothing more.

Don't lump that cunt in with me.
"You ever notice how people who believe in creationism look really un-evolved? Eyes real close together, big furry hands and feet. 'I believe god created me in one day.'... Looks like he rushed it." - Bill Hicks

Your friend was, and likely still is, a tool.
"From that day forward, evolution became, to me, intellectualized racism. Nothing more."
So, rather than actually find out what evolution is from a credible and reliable source you instead listen to some moron who wouldn't know his ass from his elbow. Real smart there.
summary:
man A has viewpoint C. man A also has viewpoint D.
Man B sees viewpoint D is wrong and concludes viewpoint C to be wrong also.
I could go on and say man B will now reject all viewpoints of man A that do not correlate with his own, and I would probably be correct in that assumption.
I've unfortunately met people who excused their racism with the same argument. A lot of people are under the impression that evolution begins with the goal of ending up with white Europeans. We are doing such a poor job of teaching the subject, when we teach it at all, that it's a wonder a lot more people don't think that way.
So, you would rather take the word of a bitter racist as the only authority on evolution, than to actually learn about it correctly?
Don't know which if you I pity more: you, volunteering to be ignorant, or him for his self hatred bigotry.
You should've punched David B straight in the jaw. All homo sapiens sapiens are at the same level on the evolutionary scale, and evolution should not be used to justify ignorance and racism. But, I'm sure that you are just making this up to justify your own ignorance, and befoul the name of evolution in the process. But, whatever.
Jackson, hmm . . . I imagine there are a lot of Jacksons around the country, unfortunately named after Andrew, this one sounds like . . . shall I say it . . . Mississippi.
Yeehah, them thar nigras jes ain'ta EEvolved yit, thass all.
Uh . . . you were a cable guy in '80 - and now you're 48 and you're a pizza guy already? Is this considered a big promotion in Jackson?
Mark, you can see from the fact that his lips are moving and sounds are coming out that he is an ape trying to communicate his thoughts with you.
This is why it's important to evaluate empirical evidence and corroborating sources or you could end up believeing any bullshit your friends told you.
So exactly how many cults are you a member of?
"Mark, you can SEE creation at work all around you. I can show you people who are still devolving after the fall. Look at the blacks here in Jackson, their noses, faces skin colour - compare a full-blooded African to some mud that God made us from. See it? Blacks are obviously far closer to being God's true creation than we are."
Yes, and I once knew a 'Jehovah's Witness' father who was willing to let his daughter slowly die rather than give her a simple blood transfusion, since that would cause extraordinary offence to his imaginary friend.
Therefore, religion is nothing more than a device by which you can murder your children.
...Seriously, get off the stage. One fuckshit who doesn't know what he's talking about doesn't vitiate the theory in any sense, and if you didn't have a set of small-minded preconceptions in place already, you'd see that.
Even if it were true or even relevant that black people were "lower on the evolutionary scale" (it isn't either, FYI), the evidence showing evolution to exist would still be there; you can't throw reality out the window just because you don't like it. I don't like the fact that the speed of light is the maximum speed obtainable, but despite my childhood dream of personal intergalactic exploration I'm not about to throw that particular piece of science out just because I want to live in a fantasy. Reality is reality - read, learn, educate yourself.
Funny I seem to heard that same particular story in those same words involving about 200 different guys in about 50 different professions. Could it be, a lie from a fundie anti-evolution pamphlet, just maybe?
For a moment there, I mistook David B. for David G, the guy who comments here on FSTDT. @_@
And yeah, just because SOME people use evolution to justify their racism doesn't make evolution racist. Should I point out the creationists who use creationism to justify their racism too?
So... if he had used the bible to support his racist views would you stop putting faith in Christianity?
People have used a lot of things to justify racism. Evolution is just one of those things, unfortunately.
This has a chance of being a real story for a change. There are assholes everywhere.
It wouldn't surprize me (on a christian site) that theres a lot of racist reasoning learned at church and from the Bible also. In this story they would only object to the evolution part and talk of the mark of Cain instead
Those would be monkeys from Africa, would they?
Who'd have thought that humans from a particular country would have evolved relatively similar features to extremely humanoid animals from the same country?
Any 'monkey-like' traits you may see in Africans (And if there are any they're extremely minor/superficial) aren't because they're less evolved, it's because they evolved under the same conditions as the monkeys. We evolved differently, not 'higher'.
Except, people don't 'evolve' populations do, everyone is equally as 'evolved' as one another, there is no evolutionary scale for blacks to be lower or higher on, and an individual's views - defensible or otherwise - do not affect the truth or falsity of an independent concept (c.f. Fred Phelps).
Some pillocks misquote evolutionary theory to justify racism, therefore evolution is racist, racism is wrong therefore evolution is wrong, QED.
Other pillocks (e.g. Christian Identity) misquote the Bible to justify racism, therefore...
Look at the blacks here in Jackson, their noses, faces - compare a full-blooded African face to an ape's face.
See it? Blacks are obviously lower on the evolutionary scale than we are."
There is no "evolutionary scale". A slime mold and a human are equally evolved.
There's no measurable genetic difference between races. All races are fully human and quite distinct from other apes. No member of one race is closer to apes than one of another race. The genetic difference between a black person and a white person is no greater than the difference between two whites.
Just because Pizzaguy's friend David B. (no relation, I'm sure, to our David B.) is an "ardent evolutionist" doesn't mean he knows shit-all about the subject.
"From that day forward, evolution became, to me, intellectualized racism. Nothing more."
Which, for your acquaintance, it assuredly was (assuming this incident actually happened). However, his faulty misinterpretation and despicable misapplication of evolutionary theory do not invalidate the real thing.
In other words, this incident isn't an indictment of evolution. It is an indictment of racism.
~David D.G.
Interesting how they can hear about all the shit their religion has been used to justify things for, and still say "that's the person's evil, not God," but the second somebody uses evolution to justify their own distorted worldviews, they go "well then, that must be propaganda." Idiots.

There are two Davids with initials for last names that post comments here regularly -- one is David D.G., and the other is David B..
In fact, both of 'em have already commented on this post.
David B. of FSTDT, I am shocked -- SHOCKED , I tell you! -- to hear that you were an intellectualized racist in 1980!
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
