Quote# 36900

I fear that my sister is lying to herself. Should I convert her?
My sister is a kind and sensitive person who doesn't want to cause any harm to any humans. She is a self-proclaimed Christian although she has never touched the bible... She idolizes actors, singers and places them before the Lord... she asks herself if it's bad that she does not observe the Sabbath or go to church for that matter. Her studies (she is in university) seem to be overwhelming; alot of her time is spent studying and the other for enjoyment (clubs, television, movies). What better if that time were spent on worship and biblical studies!

Our family was never very religious (although I have found my way) but the word God seems to be of little significance to her. She says that she misses the old, (secular) me and wishes that I returned to my fun self. I felt offended by this... I feel as if she is losing the little faith that she had... She indulges in temporal pleasures!

How can I turn her into faithful, God-fearing lady? I care for her; I really do.

Yes, your sister is a nice person who has a healthy life and is doing well.

What caring family member wouldn't want to ruin all of that?

cool cats

I feel as if she is losing the little faith that she had

You say this as if it were a bad thing.

Oh horrors! The wet blanket has realized that her sister is not a fundy!

So, your sister is studying, becoming educated, and drifting away from brainwashing cult? She socialises during her free time, and you don't like that?

You want to turn her from being an strong minded, decent human being of a woman into "God Fearing" sheep?

I hope she tells you where to stick it, and how far.

Funnily enough, this question was deleted from yahoo answers.

Temporal pleasures? The hussy!

If she's happy, let it be.

BTW, Yahoo! deleted this question for some reason.

"I care for her so much, I want to reduce her productive, happy life--the only one she'll get--to being a brainwashed automaton for a non-existant skyman and his book of faerie tales."

Wow, who is this guy, my evil twin? This sounds like MY sister, except I'm the one who's not religious, and she's failing high school.

In other words, you don't want your sister to become a free-thinking individual, instead want her to be a mindless religious zealot just like you and every other fundie...

"My sister is a kind and sensitive person who doesn't want to cause any harm to any humans"

Well then, she obviously is following the wrong path in life. Jesus definitely wouldn't people behaving like that...correct her...show her the error of her ways before it is too late!

"What better if that time were spent on worship and biblical studies! "

Yeah...it's too bad that such activitie are completely pointless, ineffectual, and are a waste of time in comparison to anything else she could possibly do.

"I feel as if she is losing the little faith that she had... She indulges in temporal pleasures"

God forbid. Ever think that God created this world with pleasures for a reason? But, feel free to continue your bout of self-loathing, and despising the Creation of the God you love so much...it must be obvious to everyone around how superior your faith is to theirs.

"She indulges in temporal pleasures!"

I can't possibly be the only person here who reads 'temporal pleasures' as 'time travel sex', surely.

Maybe if you got it through your head that life is short and death is forever, you could actually enjoy life and your sister's company without having to make everything about you and your irrelevant fantasies!

I feel a rant coming on:

How DARE you presume to know better what your sister needs for herself. "Should I convert her?" What arrogance. Who do you think you are that you think you have the right to disrupt someones life because they are not living it the way you would have them live it. The god you worship gave the human race free will, did he not? Let your sister exercise her free will. You'd do better to look to your own affairs and not to meddle in your sisters. Your self-righteous attitude disgusts me. Did you, even for a minute, expend any energy thinking maybe, just maybe, your sisters concerns over how YOU have CHANGED have merit? No, of course not. I certainly hope (in vain, no doubt) that you didn't utter that most insulting of fundy phrases: "I'll pray for you."

Apologies on errors in grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation, but I was pissed when I wrote this.

Riin-thrall: Is there any other way to read it?

She indulges in temporal pleasures! - oh the horror (of 19th century English. You wouldn't happen to be Emily Dickinson per chance?)
I might be able to help. Can you send me her phone number?

3/30/2008 1:39:36 AM

"What better if that time were spent on worship and biblical studies!"
Fortunately for her, she is in charge of her life and her time. Not you.

"She says that she misses the old, (secular) me and wishes that I returned to my fun self. I felt offended by this..."
Your ego was bruised by reality. Not to mention that you're obviously scared shitless about the responsibility of living, and don't want to hear voices from the outside world that remind you that you were once less of a coward.

"I care for her; I really do."
You don't seem to. You want the cheap ego trip of self-vindication, and your sister is a means to that end. Maybe you're also lonely for her, and realize you're alienated from her with your neurotic obsessions, and want her to be with you in your misery and spite. That is selfish - you should be the one stepping out of it.

3/30/2008 1:40:40 AM

I care for her; I really do.

Obviously not enough to let her live her life as she sees fit.

"My brother has never been very bright, but lately his brain doesn't seem to work at all. He has become a serious fuck-nut. He has latched onto this 'god' idea in that simpleton way of his. How do I stop him from being such an ass? Please keep in mind he may be brain damaged."

3/30/2008 1:41:03 AM

So people shouldn't enjoy life?

3/30/2008 1:42:13 AM

She sounds like a perfectly well adjusted woman, which is more than anyone could say for you.

"How can I turn her into faithful, God-fearing lady?"

I find the icepick up the nostril works. Once ol' Sis is completely lobotomized, she'll be an obedient member of the Flock. No more studies for her!

(Crazier than batshit... What a fuckin' bitch!)

Darwin's Lil Girl

I love my sister! Therefore, I'll let her live in fear her entire life and live without free will, logic or reason!!! I LOVE the Lord!

(Translation courtesy of Darwin's Lil Girl)

Add on: For the other people here who did, I also interpreted "temporal pleasures" as sex.

My sister is a kind and sensitive person who doesn't want to cause any harm to any humans.

Is that part of your evidence that she's not a faithful, God-fearing lady?

3/30/2008 2:13:53 AM

Your sister is a kind and sensitive person who is bettering herself through education.

And you find this evil? Why because she isn't a brain-dead walking womb?

And I can tell you that nobody going to University can afford to not pick up a text book for one day a week. Unless their just taking a General Studies with fluff courses.

3/30/2008 2:17:35 AM

You know something Gar, you sound positively green with jealousy!!! You are afraid that you are missing out on something she has. YOU are the one lying to yourself! "Tell the truth and the truth shall set you free." You hate the fact that she is having a good time, getting an education, and running her own life without the forced limitations of your religion. Leave her be, sounds like she knows what she's doing. You might have a problem though.

3/30/2008 2:24:31 AM

Your sister sounds like a reasonable human being.

Good for her. You should take example on her.
