Quote# 36928

It's not just the internet and videos.
I was searching our library website for books on early church history - and all the heretical, gnostic, liberal, fantastical garbage that came up was amazing.

Trying to find the truth is harder and harder.

The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

Deep Search

Yeah... Facts and history aren't 'the truth.' Of course.

I find it too funny that these people try to claim anything as 'fantastical garbage.'

3/30/2008 7:38:44 AM

Trying to find what I want to believe is the truth is harder and harder.

Like the Crusades, the stifling of science, specifically geocentrism, and the number of schisms and re-interpretations and re-translations of the infallible Bible, which is of course always right, even after several ambiguities and cock-ups.

Don't forget anything that mentions the fact that the Rapture isn't actually in the Bible!

Ah, fundies. So terrified of anything that would shatter their pathetic, close-minded worldview.

Also: Reason&Hope? The Reason part is blatantly laughable, and Hope? All you Rapture Ready jackasses 'Hope' for is the end of the world!

3/30/2008 8:44:58 AM

they don't understand that that is how their stupid, nonsensical creed came about - throwing out all the stuff"certain" people didn't like (along with persecutions of others - political and theological opponents)

"You can't handle the truth!"

Wellcome to the sad reality that Christianity is more divided than statistics show.

3/30/2008 9:48:12 AM

help! I can't find books that tell me what I want to hear!

3/30/2008 9:50:04 AM

It's true you can't find many books on early church history that mention The Rapture, but that's probably because it was invented by John Derby in 1827.

3/30/2008 10:09:06 AM

You wouldn't acknowledge the truth if it sat on your face.

3/30/2008 10:11:05 AM

It's also hard to find books proclaiming the world is flat.

Those asshole!

3/30/2008 10:25:57 AM

Uh, all that "heretical, gnostic, liberal, fantastical garbage IS the history of the early church.

3/30/2008 11:37:06 AM

"Help, reality won't conform to my wishes!"

Here's thought ... if you burn all the books you don't like/agree with you will be left with a lot less books and your tax dollars won't need to subsidize those oversized, pesky libraries.

"Trying to find the truth is harder and harder"

Especially when the "truth" is fictional garbage that suits your world view, but isn't grounded firmly in history, or even reality for that matter. But, I am sure that you can find some propaganda around that suits your preconceived notions. That'll make you happy, I'm sure.

@Joe - I love that quote, and will promptly steal it.

What does this person want? A book to tell them that early Christians were all nice to each other? Not going to happen in a real history book.

3/30/2008 12:52:54 PM

I've just tried three times to find the OP on Rupture Ready and it seems to have disappeared. Maybe they don't want people reading actual, real, historically correct Church history?

Or maybe the OP was too bat-shit insane even for them? Is that even possible?

3/30/2008 1:28:23 PM

On the one hand, it's encouraging that for once one of them is attempting to find out about their own religion's history. On the other, they are obviously not going to recognise truth if it bit them on the arse.

3/30/2008 1:36:19 PM

Jeez don't you people realize that the very first Christians were just like modern day Baptists! /sarcasm

Seriously, we don't know all that much about the "early church" but we do know that there were heated debates over what Jesus said. Of course, the differences between Christian groups today are nothing compared to the radical differences between Christians living during the Roman Empire.

"Trying to find the truth is harder and harder."

Do what good Christians have always done in that case: make it up as you go along.

3/30/2008 1:58:11 PM

cool cats

Oh! Poor fundie. Finding books that disagree with your mythology?

Let me guess, some of those books were historically accurate and you didn't like the truth?

3/30/2008 2:12:36 PM

That's one of the reasons those that discover this site are horrified. People tell them the truth and give them a little history of their faiths backgroud.

You lot seperate yourself from the Catholics mainly to get away from their nasty history then find your own shorter history is vile also. The only reason churches aren't responsible for as much violence and cruelty is : You've never been as big or powerful as them and never in control.

If you were, you'd perhaps be worse (Salem witch hunts etc)

Let's face it, most you ignore or rewrite your past
