Quote# 3706

The Bible does happen to be the most advanced moral code of it's time, whenever that time is. Pick a time and you can compare moral codes, and the Bible's is superior. For example, the Hammurabi creed of an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth is in the Old Testament, but for manslaughter, instead of killing the offender, he is allowed to live safely.

Read that book!

Then read the Law, just the basic tenants even.

And you can sell your daughter into slavery (I think that was in there somewhere.

In some things, not all. Barbarous times, barbarous laws. I think that could've been one of the reasons that Paul said that we were no longer under it...

This comment seems more of Jewish than Christian...

Lot banged his daughters to beget children after his wife was turned into a pillar of salt... yeah, real morality there.

Actually, the 'moral' code in the OT is just a rehashing of various laws from Egypt, Babylon, Assyria, the Hittites, and other various places in the Near East. There is nothing unique in it. And then we have to take into consideration the codes in the Far East, such as the ones established by Kung Fu Tzu (Confucious), the moral codes of Buddhism, and other such. So you can throw that garbage away and rest assured that it is not in any way divinely inspired.

The Bible has not been updated for 2000 years. Even the Pope would say that the morality has to be updated to reflect new situations.

It might have been the most advanced code at the time of it's writing. But that's thousands of years ago; we have advanced quite a bit morally since then. Hell, we've advanced more in the last 100 years than during the 5000 years before that. Ya know, the 5000 years that were ruled almost solely by the Bible.

It's apparently OK with the Bible to offer up your daughters to be raped and mauled by an angry mob.
