When I was in college, it was pretty much a brainwashing experience from the perspective that the main message that I internalized from my professors was that as a woman I could be independent.

So, learning real science, and real education is brainwashing?
More likely the Fundie Brainwashing is telling you that real science and real education is brainwashing you into thinking you have to be a subservient doormat.
Either way, go start breeding babies for Jesus!
You know what, if you choose to be a wife and mother, fine, that's your business. But other women don't want to. They want careers. Hell I know one couple personally where the husband stays home full time with the kids.
The thing is, you've been educated, and made the choice to stay home. But some poor kid who's been home schooled and has basically no education, doesn't have a choice. She's stuck and if it turns out her new hubby's an abusive prick, what options does she have?
It's funny, she starts talking about abuse, but then wanders off on a "husbands should love their wives" tangent. Never really addresses the issue.
"When Earl smacked me up side the head and said 'Go make me a sandwich, bitch,' I knew then what my place in life should be. Papa always said I as worthless as tits on a boar hog. Them pro-fes-ors try to tell me different but thats only 'cause they aint got the jesus."
Isn't the point of college to gain skills to better help you become independent?
I mean, what does she want to use her degree for?
When I was in college, having come from a deeply religious education, I could spout fundie nonsense with the best of them. And you were prey, lady.
Ah, the halcyon days of yore...
At least until I met the woman who set me straight.
All I have to say to this is the following: LOL!!
If you don't want to be independent, then get out of college bitch! Go back to the kitchen that you so desire to slave your life away in! Run! Run before you are told that you can live your life like you want it!
Did no one ever tell you that college is a place for you to learn NEW stuff, not a place that is supposed to reinforce what you already think you know?
I took a Women's Studies course when I returned to college in the mid '80s and ran across a few women like you, willing...no, eager ...to give control of their lives to a man. I found this odd until I actually listened to them. Each had her own rationalization, but at the core of their arguments was a single reason: none of them wanted to grow up and be responsible for themselves. They wished to perpetuate their childhoods in which they were cared for and supported and important decisions made for them. And in return, they do their chores and be good little girls.
I've never figured out why they went to college, either, except maybe their parents expected it and they were being obedient.
Sadly, that Women's Studies class didn't make a dent. They saw it as a challenge to try to convert the rest of us to their way of thinking in order to validate themselves.
But the truth is, you NEED to know how to be independent in order to survive. You may never marry, or if you do, your husband could die, or become severely disabled, or could even run off and take up with a woman who wasn't such a burden on him. Independence is a survival skill that everyone needs to master, even you.
as a woman (of your mind set) you shouldn't have been in college. You took a place a man should have had.
As a good Xian daughter, you ought to have stayed under your father's roof until you married, when you would become another man's property to be used as he wished.

Poe? Please? Pretty please?
If not, this is pretty horrific. Not horrific in the sense that staying home to be a wife and mother is a bad thing. It's not. Hell, I have friends who do that and I don't begrudge their lifestyles, as they don't begrudge mine. But here's the difference: all my friends who do that think for themselves. They don't submit, the relationship is 50/50. They all have qualifications and previous work experience, so if the worst happened and they split with their spouse they could find work and support themselves. This fundie woman will have nothing, and relies totally on a spouse. She refuses, out of some childlike desire, to operate her own mind. If she finds herself out on her arse one day she is going to find it extremely difficult to survive alone.
Edit: On third thought, where is that gb/2/kitchen image?
The funny thing is that, if you're dependant on somebody, how are you able to take care of your children, as apparently is your only aim on life?. Moreover, on which grounds do you have an opinion of your own?
My god woman, you can join us in the 21st century now. Hell I was raised by a single woman, who went from living in a car with a baby, to getting her masters and running a DVR office.
Lastly, you wanna know something funny about the fundie indoctrination telling women that they need to be subservient baby factories, to me, and I guess many other men, there is nothing sexier than a woman who thinks for herself and calls me on my bullshit.

Heh, the things they teach at colleges these days huh? We all know that females are totally dependant on leeching the life force of men in order to exist.
You're expressing your own opinion, disagreing with others, which means that you have independence of criteria and thought. And you think the opposite. Again, who's brainwashed?
Read the rest, please. It's priceless...
"In talking about submission in marriage, it was very harmful for me as a teenager and young twenties to internalize the message that it was healthy for me to be independent of my husband. I had to unlearn that lie and renew my mind to the truth of the Word. I share that particularly for you young women."
Didn't Jeebus said something about punishing the corrupters of the young?
Confused?
