Should Girls Go to College? [...]

In the past few years, we have seen many young people who appeared to be wise beyond their years go away to college and seemingly lose everything their parents taught them. We have seen them turn their back on God and break their parent's hearts. After witnessing such things, we began really thinking through the whole college experience in light of God's Word.

God created women to be the 'help meets' for men (Genesis 2:18). Women are not only created to be the 'help meets' for man, they are created to be under the authority of a man (Ephesians 5:22, Colossians 3:18, 1 Timothy 2:12). Scripture is clear that fathers and husbands are to be the heads of their household (1 Corinthians 11:3) and that wives are to submit to their husbands (Ephesians 5:22). How does college prepare a young woman for any of those things?

What amuses me is that I'm reading this comment from a computer at college. And I'm carrying a bag that says "WEll Behaved Women Rarely Make History".

Kronos

How does college prepare a young woman for any of those things?

It teaches her that she is too stupid to do what men do, and forces her to learn to cook and knit.
Honestly, if you think you are better than women, why don't you people just go out and picket polling stations and EVERY JOB IN AMERICA.

Hells Bells! We are back to 'Help Meets'!

Don't these people know how to speak English? Are they utter and complete gobshites?

The word 'meet' in this sense means 'suitable, 'fit for', 'proper'. If you want to use a word in the sense that you mean, then it is 'helpmate'!

Miri :Times like this I wish someone would find a complete copy of the bible before the misogynistic monks "edited" it to suppress all that goddess worship going on around them.

They'll find it. And when they do, it'll be prefaced with the ancient hebrew equivalent of 'Dedicated to my dearest Rebecca. Note: All peoples and events depicted herein are fictional and should not be used to form a world religion by.

You don't like women going to college because it teaches them how to think and make decisions for themselves, rather than blindly following the religious doctrine of man.

A thinking, educated woman is probably the number one threat to fundamentalist's brand of religion. If a woman went to college she'd soon learn that the term help meet is a complete and total mistranslation of what was actually said in the bible. And, you can't have that, now can you? Not only a thinking woman, but a thinking woman who knows that you've altered the bible to fit your demented ideas.

It's bad enough people take the damn book literally, but to create ideas - and words - that aren't even there to begin with is just plain ludicrous.

to work this out you need simply to remove your head from your ass and realize that society has advanced to the point where we can see that bronze aged goat farmers were ignorant, bigotted assholes and nothing they said has any bearing on the workings of our modern society.

First of all, this is the 21st century, and women can make their own educational decisions.

Secondly, most of the educated men I know would prefer to have women in their lives who are also well-educated.

Thirdly, educational attainment of children is strongly correlated with that of their parents. So if you want your kids to succeed in school, having two educated parents would certainly help.

Go join the Taliban, asshole.

...thus proving that they were, indeed, wise beyond their years by overcoming a lifetime of parental brainwashing.

Princess Rot

How does college prepare a young woman for any of those things?

By introducing her to feminism, which will teach her to recognise Biblically-approved patriarchal bullshit and to avoid it like the plague. It will also introduce her to the English language and the correct meaning of "help meet". It means "a suitable partner" NOT "helpmate" or "slave". Capice?

/Should Girls Go to College?/

Your title/question is idiotic enough by itself. I can hardly wait for the rest of your enlightened rant.

/In the past few years, we have seen many young people who appeared to be wise beyond their years go away to college and seemingly lose everything their parents taught them./

Otherwise known as waking up and realizing that being a fundie housewife who stays obedient and pregnant at all times really isn't all that it's cracked up to be.

/We have seen them turn their back on God and break their parent's hearts. After witnessing such things, we began really thinking through the whole college experience in light of God's Word./

Daughter: Mom, Dad, I've decided I don't want to be a slave to my future husband. I want to be a doctor instead.
Fundie Parents: Oh, no!

/God created women to be the 'help meets' for men (Genesis 2:18). How does college prepare a young woman for any of those things?/

How does being a brainwashed fundie wife prepare you for LIFE? How does it prepare you to be able to do simple, everyday tasks that don't involve cooking, giving birth, or cleaning the house? You fundies are so cut off from reality that it's pathetic. I have nothing against housewives, considering that my mother is one (even though she has a part-time job). It's when misogynistic twits like you insist that that's the only option that a woman can have. It's the 21st century, moron. Get over it.

5/7/2008 11:07:22 PM

Somebody

So women were made to be morons? I'm not buying that.

What if a woman never gets married? Ah, never thought about that, did you?
