Unless your pastor is a real asshole I think you're lying through your teeth when you say he gets regular threats of violence and death.
5/17/2008 1:23:09 PM
*Yawn* Your average paranoia.
5/17/2008 1:26:50 PM
and this isn't on CTSTDT?
5/17/2008 1:27:26 PM
You just won't be happy little fundies until you're suffering for your god, will you?
5/17/2008 1:30:01 PM
5/17/2008 1:43:07 PM
Thundersqueaks"Not long. Based on the threats of violence and death my pastor gets on a regular basis,"
Your pastor has been threatened by gay couples because he won't marry them? Either you're lying, or your pastor is.
5/17/2008 1:44:21 PM
Okay, considering the topsy-turvy world that the common Fundie inhabits, let apply a bullshit-filter onto the quote.
Result: Most likely the pastor was the one MAKING the threats, as opposed to receiving them, and then simply lied through his teeth so to score extra brownie points.
That or they are all assholes... make your pick.
5/17/2008 1:51:57 PM
Why would you expect that? Christian pastors are allowed under law to refuse to marry any couple for any reason. Some sects only perform marriages for people within their own sect. Some insist on some form of spiritual counseling.
5/17/2008 1:52:16 PM
how long before pastors...Christian pastors...are thrown into jail for NOT marrying 2 gays?
As far as the law is concerned, marriage is nothing more than a legal contract. If the church wants to impose other rules before they consider it a marriage before God, that's their own business.
5/17/2008 2:05:43 PM
Peter Popoff would be ashamed at your lying for Jesus.
5/17/2008 2:12:57 PM
Here, I fixed it for them:
Adoration: But here's another thought that added to my woes...how long before pastors...Christian pastors...are thrown into jail for NOT marrying 2 people of different races?
5/17/2008 2:58:11 PM
I must be really slow today. At first I thought that he meant that the pastor would actually have to marry the two gay people rather than preform the cermony
5/17/2008 3:05:17 PM
Yeah I'm sure the LGBT is going to try to take down the Christian churches just so they can get married... I thought it was the government who wouldn't marry them, legally?
5/17/2008 3:05:39 PM
The sting, or "Operation Fabulous Bridesmaids' Dresses", takes place in 6 months, 12 days time.
And you missed out the part where the pastor would be legally obligated to offer Cher as an alternative to traditional organ music.
5/17/2008 3:06:27 PM
You're not persecuted.
5/17/2008 3:08:08 PM
...how long before pastors...Christian pastors...are thrown into jail for NOT marrying 2 gays?
Well, that depends. How long until your pastor gets up to spew another hate-fueled diatribe against gays like a sick dog on a rollercoaster?
I'm pretty sure they are plotting some sort of "Sting" to take out churches.
Obviously I wouldn't want to see your church oppressed. Perhaps rather than a law enforcement sting we should just arrange for an in-depth IRS audit for your church instead.
All in the name of progress, open-mindedness, love, and tolerance of course....
You betcha. Is that the same progress, open-mindedness, love and tolerance you fundies display for anyone who hasn't knuckled under to your spiritual terrorism?
5/17/2008 3:09:03 PM
That will never happen, you twit. Legal marriage and religious marriage are two different things. Pastors have the right to refuse to marry anyone for pretty much any reason. I happen to think it's an assholish thing to do, but it's not against the law.
5/17/2008 3:10:52 PM
Amen! Brother Aethernaut! Lying, not for jesus, but for the sheer prejudice that turns the innards to acid.
5/17/2008 3:44:52 PM
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA -- ::gasp::
Oh, yeah, your pastor is receiving "death threats", sure. I bet they're all in his own damn handwriting, too.
5/17/2008 4:01:18 PM
Just move to Iran - where there are no gays. You'll be able to practice your religion unhindered.
5/17/2008 4:20:34 PM
No. If for some reason it became necessary to do that, we'd probably do what the French did and abolish recognition of religious marriage, and make people head down to city hall to get married before a JP before going to the church.
5/17/2008 4:43:25 PM
It's only a matter of days I'd guess.
5/17/2008 4:47:47 PM
It'll never happen. My dad is a pastor, so I know how this works. A church can decline to preform the service for any reason. Many churches refuse to marry people who have already had sex, or if the woman is pregnant. Some won't marry people who aren't members of their church. Your church will never be forced to marry gays. It just won't happen. You're delusional.
5/17/2008 5:01:26 PM
Churches, in general, have exemptions carved out from general anti-discrimination laws. So I don't think you fears are that justified.
5/17/2008 5:03:14 PM
Death threats? Oh, stop being so paranoid.
5/17/2008 5:35:06 PM
