The question is why would we try to protect life. Life makes absolutely no sense, if there is no God. We would all be cosmic accidents floating through time and space. It would not matter at all if I killed someone or not and I would not feel guilty about it. I may not kill someone as a result of rational thinking about the consequences, but I would not feel guilty about it. But most people do in fact feel guilty. If I were ever to think that there was no God, I would immediately kill myself, but not before wiping out a few cities, raping a bunch of women and wreaking other havoc. I mean, why shouldn't I. Because I would go to prison? No I wouldn't. Before being arrested I would kill a few more people and then put the gun to my head. The only reason for not doing any of that is that it would be wrong. How do I know it's wrong? I just know. Because God made me that way, NOT because society told me so because it happens to be more convenient.

Please get some therapy. You sound like a danger to others as well as yourself. If I were present when you started on your rampage, I would personally stomp on your neck until you drown in your own fluids. You are a deluded, selfish, misanthrope who only keeps it together because of your shaking belief in a cosmic deity. You are pathetic.
What the fuck? It bothers me so fucking much when people use this type of argument. How about having some empathy for other people and their potential pain? I don't believe in god. I think religion is bullshit. I would never rape someone, and I'd never kill anyone without good reason (such as self-defense, or defense of my loved ones).
Because the ONLY force that could POSSIBLY drive people NOT to do these things is religion. Not a consideration of how much harm it would do to other people.
Christian morality is not the only morality, nor is it the first system of morality ever to come into existence.
I've always wondered how so many so-called religious people can be so cold-hearted, evil and cruel. I guess when you are emotionally empty, you have to go for something that seems big and important, just so feel that void inside you. You could also just try and love other people, without any bullshit about Gods.
It really frightens me that so many religious people use this kind of an argument. That only thing that keeps them from hurting & killing other people is fear of God. That is sick. It frightens me even more, that these psychopaths base their belief on a childish myth (which was never meant to be taken literally btw), because eventually they will realize it's bullshit, and then they will do just what the original poster wrote. Go on a rampage, because "nothing matters".
Sick, twisted people. :(
he fails in so many ways.
He doesn't understand that evolution has crafted us as social animals
He doesn't realise that parents and society molds us as social anumals
People who do these things are sociopaths - abnormal
and for a theist:
he doesn't understand that he doesn't get kudos from god just because he doesn't do things because he's scared of punishment
I love how he thinks he's good enough with a gun to "wipe out a few cities".
It seems to be some quirk of the human brain - quite a few people, upon gaining posession of a firearm, seem to forget for a while that other people have them too. Must be that temporary, overwhelming sense of power.
That says far less about our beliefs, and far, far, FAR more about what really lies at the core of your being.
#1 - you dont have to be an atheist to do all of those things
#2 - umm, I would prefer that you remain a Christian from now on
#3 - Just because you would do those things if you became an atheist doesnt mean that millions and millions of other people who are droping their religion will do the same.
#4 - Now either you are lying and embelishing things to try to make atheism look bad, or you REALLY ARE THAT WAY, and anything that will make you doubt the existence of Jesus may put you on a killing spree.
..please either stop lying or get some help.
I KNOW THIS IS AN 8 YR OLD POST BUT I WAS BORED... SO... LMFAO)))
So.... your God wiped out entire cities and flooded the world drowning billions all because he did not believe in Himself as God?... That explains and justifies His actions because it justifies yours as well if you were to do these things? This is moral and sound logic and reasoning? ...
uhhh duude?... Mr.Reality check is here to have some tea with his neighbor: Your brain. Ill just tell him ill pass the message along since your brain has stepped out for the evenining mulling over some things... douchebag.
Yet another sociopath fundie who is only held in check by the fear of God.
God didn't make you that way, dumbass, society did, and evolution.
I would not kill another human being because that would harm that other human being.
I would not rape a human being because that would hurt that human.
I would not kill myself because that would end my life, and hurt the ones that love me.
*rubs his dick to the picture of a gorgeous girl*
No, life totally doesn't make sense. I have no reason whatsoever to pursue anything, least of all happiness.
This is why a push for atheism has its hazards. If some people are too dumb to figure out how to behave themselves without God and the afterlife held over their heads, we shouldn't take that away from them.
Any attempts to raise awareness about atheism should include attempts to raise awareness about how you can have morality and fulfillment without God.
Too often, the atheist approach is, "Hey, let's take your system away from you and not replace its vital components with anything else." And you get people like this, who feel that if God were taken away, they would be unable to replace the void with a reasonable set of morals, values, goals, love, etc. Let's try to work on that, shall we?
On the other hand, this particular individual sounds like he has a mental disorder that would exist no matter what his religious upbringing was.
While definitely more extreme than most Fundies (from his blatant psychopathy,) I still stand by my statement that, while many believers aren't likely to go on killing sprees, they need to be shown how a person can have good morals after rejecting God and religion.
Guilt and negative emotions associated with murder and almost any anti-social behavior are gained through both evolution as a social creature and are taught and reinforced by society. We have evolved in a way that benefits our organism and makes us more successful. Sociopaths are people whose brains do not have the ability to feel emotions such as guilt, etc. which help us to be socially conscious individuals. I suspect most Christians who would kill, maim, rape, etc. without fear of their skydaddy are of a lower evolutionary sub-species.
It's still a cosmic lark, and we really do exist without any real reason when compared to the vastness of the universe, but we do exist and we act in ways that benefit our species (ideally) in our little corner.
Christians are such enterprising people! Now not only do they have a monopoly on Heaven, God, and the "Truth", they also claim to own morality. Gotta go now, there are some infidels worshiping at the temple down who must be shown God's love from the barrel of my boomstick.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
