Quote# 40217

[Regarding a new decree by the Vatican which explicitly bars the ordination of women.]

The decree was published Thursday by Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano, which in a headline called the ordination of women a "crime."

The congregation said it acted to "preserve the nature and validity of the sacrament" of ordination.

The decree — signed by the congregation's head, American Cardinal William Levada — said anyone trying to ordain a woman and any woman who attempts to receive the ordination would incur automatic excommunication.

You obviously agree with St. Paul's view that women should not speak in church as opposed to St. Paul's view that men and women are equal.

St. Paul was a troubled man.

What means "ordination", out of curiosity?

ordination as a priest.

Women can't be priests, because they carry the tempting seed of EVIL!

Frankly, it's their religion. They can run it by any rules they want, and kick out whoever they want.

And anyone who doesn't agree with it is free to leave it, too.

Pretty damn stupid way to run it, though.

Totally understandable. I mean, how can someone preach with a vagina? That's completely contradictory.

If they keep throwing women out of the church, sooner or later the church will be empty. ^_^

Funny, because priests who rape children aren't automatically excommunicated.

Apparently, letting a girl into the boys' club is a bigger deal than child rape. Yeah, real moral authorities, these assholes.

Yeah, yeah. Give it three or four hundred years and you'll be ordaining them left and right. It used to also be a "crime" to be an atheist, think the earth orbited the sun or not believe a corpse came back to life after rotting for three days. Times change and you guys eventually catch up. You're just a bit slow about it.

Way to take charge and make Catholicism less popular.

Why? Are women less likely to molest little boys? Are they more likely to report a priest who molests little boys?

Just what is it you assholes fear?

Let's allow those child-molesting priests to stay, but kick those damn women out.

Well since the current Pope seems to think of the inquisition as the 'good ol days', this isn't that surprising.

That's right, go ahead and adopt the exact same mentality as the child that builds a pillow fort with a "no girls allowed" sign on it. That level of mature decision making is exactly what God would have demanded.

MWM atheist seeks WF for long walks on the beach, slow tender kisses, and ordination games. Disease and delusion free--expect the same.

James: It's worth noting that not only was Paul a victim of mistranslation and scribal errors (whether deliberate or accidental, I'm not quite sure in most cases), but only seven of his books are genuine: Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Philippians, 1 Thessalonians and Philemon. It's been confirmed that Paul did not write 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, or Titus.

I'm wondering in which of the epistles credited to him Paul says men and wnmen are equal and in which Paul says that women shouldn't speak in church.

This really isn't a fundie quote. The Roman Catholic church hasn't allowed women to be Priests since it started. Women can be nuns however, and that's how it has been. It's tradition.

Comparing this to quotes like "A DEAD ATHEIST IS THE BEST ATHEIST" is asinine.

(hoping that it will bring them back to real, wordly, power)

btw. I don't really see how you can say this is not fundy.
