Why is it that ALL of the clever drawings of our 'ancestors' are brown? Does this by any chance have anything at all to do with non-whites being less than human? Please explain your stance to my African brothers and sisters, then to the Aborigines in Australia, then to every single other non-European in the world. Please explain how your World view is different to Hitler's.

These are just guesses but...

1. Brown was an easy color to create and use and showed up quite nicely on cave walls.

2. What appears to be brown in the present may have been a different color which has faded over time into shades of brown.

Does this by any chance have anything at all to do with non-whites being less than human?

Only if anyone in the scientific community has ever posited that one must be white in order to mix up brown pigment for cave paintings.

Please explain how your World view is different to Hitler's.

Hitler would probably have blamed the Jews or the homosexuals or the gypsies. My own personal opinion is that color or ethnicity has nothing to do with mixing pigments for cave painting.

Say what? If I understand you babbling correctly, artistic depictions of our ancestor are generally darker skinned because humanity first evolved in Africa and, surprise, likely had dark skin to deal with the sun. So no, they're not "less than human" you moron, they'd be the first true humans so show some respect.

Anyway, Hitler liked to execute people he felt to be inferior to his "Master Race" whereas I hold no concept of "race" let alone a "Master Race." I also don't go executing people or groups I don't like.

How's that?

Dumbass, evolutionary theory says all human beings lead back to African ancestors.

The non-Africans, myself included, descend from branches of the human family that left Africa at an earlier time and adapted appropriately to the environment they found themselves in.

That means, for example, lighter skin for those who lived in places further away from the equator, because they didn't need the protection against the sun as much, and, recieving less direct sunlight, still required some to reach them so that they could maintain strong bones (and not, you know, break a hip during childbirth and die).

No one's fucking arguing that Africans, Europeans, Asians, Austrailians, (Native) Americans and the whole crew come from different ancestor species. We are one fucking species, dumbass. Species are not subjective, they are defined as a breeding population. And, guess what we are? A breeding population.

Get over it, your ancestors were darker than you.

The 'pale skin' thing is a minority mutation. Our ancestors were brown. Most people, ever, were brown. Because they were. Brown. You are aware that most people are brown. But you don't seem to connect this with the ancestors of people being brown.

That is really very strange.

But then, I've been known to leap to some odd conclusions about subtextual misogyny, so just try to roll back the paranoia a little, huh?

Edit: And what's up with the Bible verse, anyway? If we have only one ancestor, the races must have divided somewhere, and a minority group like Caucasians being the only ones still on-model is not what I would naturally assume. If there had been an Adam, he like early humans would probably have been brown.

You know, I'm not sure why. We don't have any way of knowing the skin color of our ancestors, so all the people creating such reconstructions are going to have to make an educated guess. I would guess that our ancestors are typically not depicted as white because only Europeans have that pale a skin tone. It's relatively uncommon amongst humans, so it seems to be something that developed relatively recently in one population. I'm not certain if this is the actual reason, but it seems to be fairly sensible.

You know, the idea that it was because the artists were trying to say that people with darker skin were somehow "less than human" had never crossed my mind. Are they also trying to say that hairy people are less-than-human? (Also, most depictions of Neanderthals shows them as having pale skin, by the way. Though they contributed so little DNA to modern humans and were a separate species from our direct ancestors, I suppose you get off on that one because you were talking about artistic depictions of our ancestors.)

My stance is that anyone who claims that any group of people is "less human" or "less evolved" than another group of people is stupid, doesn't understand science, and is a racist bigot who I want nothing to do with. My stance is that individuals should be judged as individuals, not by the color of their skin or any larger group they may belong to. You tell me how that's different Hitler, okay?

Um, wow. No. This is simply about what would have been survival traits in the conditinos we think our ENTIRE gene pool evolved in.
The theory is that we evolved in Africa, then spread out. ‘White’ is a mutation that would not have been beneficial in Africa, but was more survivable in Europe.
