You're right - the radical homsexual agenda's stance is most hypocritical. First they wanted "tolerance". Now they're demanding acceptance. Step by step, they keep pushing and pushing until one day, the situation in Canada will be here: preachers won't be able to speak out against homosexuality in their own churches for fear of being jailed for hate speech. The radical agenda infiltrates the legal system and uses it to their own agenda and advantage.
Interestingly enough, I was listening to talk radio show a few weeks ago discuss same-sex marriage being legalized in California (for the time being) - and a gay man called in and (surprisingly) was very against the idea. His words were "they have parades calling for tolerance - because we're different. But then they want to be the same as heterosexuals by demanding marriage be allowed for same-sex couples. So they want to be recognized as different - yet be the same. You can't have it both ways."

How hypocritical, radical, and just plain WRONG of them to want for people to stop telling them that they are hellbound freaks. They don't have the right to demand people to do that!
"preachers won't be able to speak out against homosexuality in their own churches for fear of being jailed for hate speech."
Your slippery slope belies your paranoia, and nothing more.
"So they want to be recognized as different - yet be the same. You can't have it both ways"
Yes. Yes you can have it both ways. You can give people equal rights while still acknowledging their unique cultures, attitudes, lifestyles, and perspectives. Nice try though.
"preachers won't be able to speak out against homosexuality in their own churches for fear of being jailed for hate speech."
This should already be the case.
I disagree with you ID82. Freedom of Speech means that people can say whatever they want, even if it is cruel, spiteful, and hateful.
"But then they want to be the same as heterosexuals by demanding marriage be allowed for same-sex couples."
Wanting the same thing as someone else does not make you the same as them.
If you want the right to vote and I want the right to vote, does that mean we're the same? That we have the same poltical leanings? That we'd vote for the same people? No.
Yes, how dare they demand equal treatment under the law. I mean, what is this world coming to, when godless heathens demand to be treated fairly!
(Wow, this Poe thing is easier then I thought)

Preachers can say whatever they want in Canadian churches.
The thing is -- the majority of Canadian churches do not discuss homosexuality, period.
If your church is a place where sermons condemn any group of people your in the wrong church. A church should be a place of inspiration; teaching community, charity, forgiveness, loving ones neighbour. You know like the guy you are supposedly following.
What is this 'situation in Canada'? I live in Canada, I see no 'situation'. Gay marriage came and nothing changed. Well some people in Vancouver have enjoyed a boom providing marriages to American homosexuals, but that's about it.

Wrong! /Lex

For some reason i call bullshit, but it might not of been (i know some gay people wrote into British newspapers after civil partnerships were announced saying that they were against them)

Hate speech should not be protected by any law.
I love my gay friends. Gays I don't know, I don't think about, because I don't know them.
I tolerate a headache. I tolerate Christians.
"and a gay man called in and (surprisingly) was very against the idea"
Because there's no way someone could call a radio station or write something on teh interwebs and pretend to be someone they aren't...
preachers won't be able to speak out against homosexuality in their own churches for fear of being jailed for hate speech.
I'm confused. Are you saying that homophobic ranting shouldn't count as hate speech, or just that hate speech should be allowed?
"Hate speech should not be protected by any law."
Yes, it should. Freedom of speech.
You have the right to be an hateful idiot, and to let everybody know you're an idiot by running your stupid mouth off. Oppression is oppression is oppression. You don't have the right not to have your feelings hurt and to shut up people who say unpopular things. Thats fascism.
How would we know who the enemy was if they had to keep quiet?
And No canadian preachers have been arrested, if anything we're in the stranglehold of humans rights tribunals ever time a religious person has his feelings hurt. Look at the Macleans situation. Ugh, national embarrassment.
If someone says "All pagans should be killed and thrown off a cliff", that's definitely hate speech. If someone says "The Bible says that paganism is against god" I think that's free speech. I'm using pagans as an example because I'm a pagan.
But anyhow...why the hell are these people sooo interested in what everyone else does in bed? I have literally no interest in the sex life of the American fundamentalist Christian. Well, I do have kind of a morbid interest in those fundie Mormons, but still!
I am of Scottish ancestery. In some situations, I want to be recognized as different, but I want the same rights as all other U.S. citizens. One shouldn't have to deny who one is to qualify for rights freely given to others.
"If someone says "All pagans should be killed and thrown off a cliff", that's definitely hate speech. If someone says "The Bible says that paganism is against god" I think that's free speech. I'm using pagans as an example because I'm a pagan. "
Everybody opposed to free speech should be thrown off a cliff. Do I deserve to go to prison for that? Criminal charges? Protect children from being taught untruths and hate, sure, but ban it? Thats fucking fascism.
"So they want to be recognized as different - yet be the same. You can't have it both ways." "
This is blithering idiocy on a level only a fundie can produce. Either you are lying, or that gay man on the radio was a fundie lying about being gay.
"So they want to be recognized as different - yet be the same. "
Sounds a lot like the case of fundies who state "Catholics aren't Christians" or "Methodists aren't real Christians," but then have to include all those "not real Christians" Christians in order to say "Christianity is the largest religion in the world."
Okay, firstly; I'm Canadian. I love my country because we have many rights here!
Secondly; Im a gay man.
I dont care about "pushing" any agenda for the gay community. I simply want the option to marry someone whom I feel I want to spend the rest of my life with!
If a religous faction wants to demand that we are going to hell and are abominations - let them. It's their religious rights, so long as they are not actively hurting people.
-D
"they have parades calling for tolerance - because we're different. But then they want to be the same as heterosexuals by demanding marriage be allowed for same-sex couples. So they want to be recognized as different - yet be the same. You can't have it both ways."
Being different is not the same as wanting to be recognized as different........ There's a logic disconnect there. You go from "we're different" to "want to be recognized as different". And the only reason those parades are held is because they ARE treated differently. What do you think would happen if gay marriage were legalized throughout the whole US? You think there'd be more or less parades?
And also, you can't be tolerated AND allowed marriage? Wow, tough world.
What a douchebag. A homosexual advocating against homosexuals. My money says it was a troll.
Give yourself to the Canadian Way. We will replace your aggressive attitude with a passive aggressive attitude that, while still allowing you to vent your frustrations, is less damaging on the global scale.
the situation in Canada will be here: preachers won't be able to speak out against homosexuality in their own churches for fear of being jailed for hate speech
Yeah, I live in Canada, and there isn't any "situation" up here. Quit making shit up, fundies. The only difference up here is that homosexuals can get married. People are still allowed to say whatever they want about it, and freedom of speech protects them. In fact, our current prime minister tried to open up the issue again, since he's a conservative and is against gay marriage. He has spoken out against it before. Fortunately, he's a minority prime minister, so they voted against re-opening the issue.
Anyway, point is... no one is being jailed for speaking out against homosexuals up here. So shut the hell up, fundies.
Yeah right, how dare those homosexuals demand for the same thing that women demanded in 1920, the blacks demanded for in 1960, and the jews have been demanding forever!
'The radical agenda infiltrates the legal system and uses it to their own agenda and advantage.'
Sounds like what the religious right does in the U.S. Fundy whacko James Dobson (Focus on the Family) is often in touch with the White House. Same goes for a lot of other fundy nutjobs; while they don't always have the President's ear, they often are in regular contact with U.S. Congressional members (the FRC, the AFA, 'Traditional Values Coalition', etc). But I guess in jaybird74's view that's OK because he's trying to bring about 'Biblical law'. What galling hypocrisy.
He is exactly correct. Gays want to be treated exactly like straights (except for every aspect of life). You can't even look wrong at a gay because you get "HATEMONGER HOMOPHOBE BIGOT INTOLERANT HATE CRIMES FUNDIE BASTARD!!!!!" screamed in your face. If you want to be treated exactly the same then you have to drop all of the hate crimes crap, homophobe crap, and the touchy, waiting to be offended, attitudes. Straight people have had to deal for years with people making jokes at their expense, getting beaten up for no good reason, and losing a job all without whining that it is a hate crime or discrimination. In other words, if you want to be treated normal then suck it up and quit bitching like a little pussy.
...preachers won't be able to speak out against homosexuality...
I love it how you can speak agianst homosexuality, but if someone spoke against christianity, you sceam persectuion.
So they want to be recognized as different - yet be the same. You can't have it both ways.
Yes you can. Men and women are diffrent, yet there both allowed to vote.
You mean it should be illegal for someone to ask people stop threatening him of death ?
Christians, meet the lions.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
