[On whether or not evolution is a religion]
Pretty much! The gathering places (churches) are universities, and such places, the preaching is all over the radio, TV, documentaries, schools, etc. And the ever changing fairy tale books are treated with a reverence that is akin to worship.

Well, you've really got to excuse dad1. As he's never been in, to or even near a university, he has no idea what goes on there, or that a few more ideas other than evolution are discussed there.

You cannot make something a religion just because you want to put it into your little box of thought. If it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit, plain and simple.
So, what's the Theory of Evolution's 'changing fairy tale books'? I'd've thought it was On the Origin of the Species , but the book has never changed, even though the material provided therein has been updated elsewhere.

There are no fewer than six 24-hour-a-day religious TV channels where I live. I haven't counted the number of fundy radio stations where I live, but I'm sure it's sizable...

Actually I'm not a biologist, I'm studying CS at ... 'church'.
And I don't waste time worshipping.
Most importantly, evolution has no ritual or superstition component, which I believe disqualifies it as a religion.

Nope. The Supreme Court took up the issue: it's not:
"Yet it is clearly established in the case law, and perhaps also in common sense, that evolution is not a religion and that teaching evolution does not violate the Establishment Clause" (McLean v. Arkansas Board of Ed.)

So, everything providing information over the radio, TV, and schools is religion? Good to know. I may convert to RocknRollism, Reality-showianity, or Historyology.
Also, I would like to see these people that treat biology textbooks with "reverence akin to worship". You sound like a raving moron preoccupied with Barney the Dinosaur, and arguing that everyone with more than half as much interest in something completely unrelated is as childish as you are.
if evolution is a religion based on said criteria, then so is psychology, various forms of visual art, performance art, music, law, mathematics, physics, other fields of biology, chemistry, literature, history, sociology, etc. all the way down to various forms of athleticism.
I really don't mind too much if you want to change the definition of religion to 'anything', but it sort of defeats the purpose of having that word.
So the religion of evolution gets the universities, radio, tv and schools, and the religion of Christianity gets the Churches?

So Football is a religion? (Stadiums, media exposure, sports at school and football themed books)
How about Music? (Venues, media exposure, teaching music at school and music themed books)

4. As for worshiping our books. If you burn my text book. I'll admit I'll be upset, because it's expensive, because I fear for humanity if you start book burning again, and because I probably have notes in it. Now what if I burn your bible? You don't worship that?
