[In response to a message that (gasp) the Separation of church and State might be a good idea after all]
So you think we (Christians) are to stay out of the Government... because of your interpretation of God's word on governing authorities?
Wow I would say just the opposite, we need to be greatly involved in the Government. To the point of running the Country.

Comments like that are why the separation of Church and State exist.
Christian already had lots of influence in government at least twice in history.
For once there would be the influence of the Pauline christians in the government of rome, thanks to emperor Constantine.
This lead to the persecution of the largest christian movement that rivaled the pauline christians, to be more precise the gnostic christians and finally lead to the complete disappearance of gnostic faith, after 1 century of persecution, with all gnostics either executed or forced to convert and almost all of their books burned, so that we only have scarce surviving literatue about the gnostic faith.
The other case of christians influencing the government of course would be the medieval ages, where the christian influence lead to the persecution of alleged witches and pagans, as well as of scientists who dared to propose theories that contradicted the bible.
Nope I don´t think that human rights would profit if fundamentalist christians would again be in a position of power.
Considering the comments of christian fundamentalists I assume we can conclude what would follow if fundamentalist christians would rule the USA:
-Persecution of homosexuals and people who are involved into abotions
-Forced lessons in creationism, as well as prohibition to teach the theory of evolution in school
-Probably complete prohibition of abortions, even in case of medical emergencies
-Forced abstinence education istead of sex ed
-Obstacles to obtain contraceptives
-handicaps for people of other (non christian) religions to exercise their religion, maybe even persecution of atheists and followers of other religions
These are only some of the consequences that IMHO would arise from a fundamentalist christian government (in which the christian rulers would be able to do as they like)
A fundie is already running the US, moron, and look at the mess he alone made, now imagine it being consistently run by close minded asshole fundies... the end of the US for sure!
The founding fathers knew what a weapon religion would be in the hands of corrupt leaders.
That's why there is separation.
Sorry, fundturds won't get their wish.
Well it's okay if you're involved, but you have to be secular.
Now, why does my house smell like dog pee?
Yes, because your holy book is clearly the only one in existence that's real and should definately govern.
Iran is calling your name.
Christians basically ARE running the country, and have been for a long time. How many atheists have held a public office since the country's inception?
As a Christian, you have the same rights as (almost) anybody else in this country. What more do you need?
(a) You're not being asked to stay out of the government.
(b) You are greatly involved in the government.
(c) If you were to run the country any more than you do at the moment the US could lock the doors and turn out the lights. We'd be out of business.
Sure Christians can run the country, as long as it's not a de facto theocracy they want to implement. After all, religion is a personal, private thing and should remain so, and Christians would agree. After all, religious opression can go either way...
1) Christians ARE running the country.
2) It's not about the religions of the people who run the country, but keeping that religion out of legislation.
3) Shut your face hole.
Wow I would say just the opposite, we need to be greatly involved in the Government. To the point of running the Country.
Hmmm, I can almost see it now;
"I think the rapture should have happened already, lets start it off by launching some nukes at Iran and China"
World explodes.
Cue the band to strike up "Jesusland Uber Alles!"
As others have noted, the government has already been run almost entirely by Christians. And that's not a problem, so long as they're decent and tolerant people, not vicious raving loony fanatics like you.
If there were fundamentalist Christians running the government without separation of church and state, there would be much less freedom and persecution of many groups, including: homosexuals, atheists, people of other religions, people invovled in abortions, scientists supporting evolution, etc.
But what about the fact that you've made a shambles of things every time you've been given even a smidge of authority?
Stay in the buildings with the pointy tops. When you suck so bad in all other venues, go back to the one you created.
Never mind the Constitution, but even Jesus says "no."
Does Jesus ever once seek political power in all the gospels? No.
The holy land was conquered and occupied by the Romans, and Jesus didn't seek to overthrow the Romans in a warrior's revolt, nor did he seek to even be the governor.
No, because your King of the Jews says that the real revolution, the REAL coming the kingdom of god is here and now already *taps your chest* In your heart, asshole.

Anyway I believe that we have some wonderfull quotes from Islam that showcases just why that would be a bad idea. You've already given us one dark age and we don't want another.
The separation of church and state has nothing to do with some diety. The law was laid down by the founding fathers of your country, men who were far more intelligent than you will ever be.
Anyway I'd like to hear your reasoning behind this idea but I strongly suspect you haven't any.
"Wow I would say just the opposite, we need to be greatly involved in the Government. To the point of running the Country. "
Really? I only ask because we have a christian president and just about all of the senators, governors, etc. are also christian and you guys are pretty much fucking everything up. I'm reminded of this every time I watch the news and see how high gas prices are, how awful our reputation is with the rest of the world, how abysmal the unemployment rate is here and the way Bush has pissed away the surplus funds Bill Clinton left us with (on a war based upon a lie, no less).
Yet you think the christians are doing a good job and should continue to run things.
It is now 10:10 am. I know I'll be laughing over this little slice of arrogance and fail until at least 3 pm. Thanks for the chuckle, sparky.
The Separation of Powers of the three branches works pretty well when you assume that each branch will try to preserve its own power for power's sake.
It's broken down in the past 8 years, however, because Republican legislators are all too willing to hand away the powers of their office to exalt their authoritarian figurehead.
To the point of running the Country.
Fundy spelling. Hey, dunce - it's spelled 'ruining'
Dang, rubber chicken beat me to it.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
