A piece of iron cannot "evolve" into anything because IT IS NOT ALIVE and DOES NOT REPRODUCE.
In order for evolution to happen, the subject must be alive and able to procreate, thereby passing along its genetic information from one generation to the next.

Aircraft carriers evolved from canoes via well-known natural processes.
