Harry Potter is good, the Bible is not. That's about the best and most succinct reason for why one is taught in schools and the other isn't. Oh, and nobody pretends that Harry Potter is real.

If Bible was released today...

As the past clearly shows, book burnings are the most efficent way to educate society.
6/11/2008 10:33:00 AM
So.. they're throwing porn and Harry Potter books/pages in a fire pit while the bible says that God accepts offerings that are burned?
It wouldn't matter unless they were on holy ground or pra... I guess I'll see them in hell.

"It is allowed for Harry Potter to be taught in our schools, but not the Bible,"
Are you admitting that the bible is fantasy fiction?

Burning books for Jeebus !
way to go dudes ... what's next ?
're-socialisation' camps for kids who read Harry Potter ?
btw, I think pornography is much more interesting than Harry Potter, now there's an hype if I ever saw one

"Against decadence and moral decay! For decency and manners in family and state! I assign the flames the writings of J.K.Rowling."
Paraphrased from http://www.buecherverbrennung.de/_Feuerspruche_/_feuerspruche_.html (german)

Pages from a porn magazine, not the whole magazine?
I guess the pastor saved the ones he really liked.

Since when has HP been "taught" in schools.
Read for enjoyment maybe...but taught?
6/11/2008 11:42:23 AM
Really, what is the fucking difference between a fantasy-fiction book for children and a fantasy-fiction book for fundies?
6/11/2008 11:58:04 AM
I'm sure it was a well-read pornographic magazine, and a never-read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

By the way, I think I've been to this church, but only because I was conned into thinking it was an International House of Pancakes. I was severly disappointed.
6/11/2008 12:12:21 PM
I could have sworn there were passages in the Bible in which Jesus stated that Satan does not reside in writings or drawings, but in the hearts of man.
6/11/2008 12:21:18 PM
Nazi Germany had book burning events.
6/11/2008 12:21:57 PM
Shit, we'll teach the bible as part of fictional writing if you want.
6/11/2008 12:35:12 PM
Yadda, yadda, yadda. Grow up.

The definition for "Best Seller" is found in that very phrase--seller. Books become best sellers by the number of books sold. To burn a book, one must buy the book, thereby increasing its chances of becoming a best seller. Unless of course, book burning churches steal the books, then they are breaking a commandment. So, the more Harry Potter books they buy for the purpose of burning them, the higher those books rise on the best seller lists and the more editions that are printed. I conclude that the Harry Potter (and Penthouse, etc.) book burners are defeating their puropose.

The bible IS taught in school. It is taught in classes about religion in general, and about Christianity in particular.
If Harry Potter is "taught" in school, it's as a reading assignment for a literature class.
Do you understand the difference?
6/11/2008 12:59:18 PM
"Bellowed" is right, along with bleated, squawked, and howled.
As fiction, HP is more relevant than the bible. As truth, the porn is.

I was taught Animal Farm in school, and yet I've never gone out and tried to have a conversation with a horse.
I suppose a story about a boy who is destined to be the only one with the power to stop an evil being from enslaving the world might not sound too fictional to a fundie though.
6/11/2008 1:18:05 PM
and if we started burning bibles.....
the screams would be heard from the Urals to the Rockies (long way round)
6/11/2008 1:23:39 PM
burning books since 200 AD
6/11/2008 1:25:02 PM
Well the children have to learn good storytelling methods and grammar somehow.
Not to mention Harry Potter doesn't have nearly as much sex in it. Or violence. Or magic!

"It is allowed for Harry Potter to be taught in our schools, but not the Bible," International House of Prayer pastor James Crawford said during the Shreveport Regional Unity of Faith Revival."
Perhaps in an English class it may be used for examples and such but it's certainly not "taught" you moron. I'm sure passages from the Bible, along with the Qur'an, Vedas, Tanakh and other so-called "holy texts" are used in a similar fashion in cultural/religious anthropology courses, comparative religion classes and other appropriate places if that makes you feel better.
"That is one reason pastors from several denominations and races ripped pages from "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." Those and pages from a pornographic magazine were put into a burn pit and set afire as praises bellowed from the congregation."
That sounds awful "pagan" and maybe even a bit "occult" to me. I expect to hear about one or more of your churches being called Satanic by some other church over this.
6/11/2008 1:42:18 PM
It can be bookburning tiems now pls? kthx.
