Yes, the gaffe regarding 57 states was a mistake. I'm pretty sure that Obama meant to say '47' -- not that he was referring to "the number of recognized Islamic states in the world". Because I'm pretty sure there aren't 57 Islamic states. I had a family member tell me this utter nonsense a few weeks ago. That number just sounded wrong, so I looked up how many officially Islamic countries there were. It was less than 57! Where on earth are the wing-nuts getting that number?
