Perhaps the link is more simple.....academics hate their jobs, they are geeks to they hate their social life, and this self-loathing creates their doubting of God?

Yeah, I'll bet Einstein WISHED he could've been a bricklayer from Buttfuck Arizona with the social life of a middle American Christian mother of 12.

Oh, the fail.
This is why you clearly aren't an academic.

Why would self-loathing create doubts about God? Usually, the worse someone thinks his life is, the more likely he is to want to believe he's going to get his turn in the afterlife to laugh at all the cool, successful people who laughed at him in this one.

Yet another study that points to the link between a higher intelligence and education, and lack of religious beliefs.

Uh, what? I'm not sure I get any connection here other than "education is bad". We know that is a fundie mindset, but this takes the cake.

I'm an Oxford student, so I talk to career academics all the time on a one-to-one basis.
Trust me, they love their jobs for the most part (the ones that teach aren't too fond of marking, but otherwise). You have to to put up with being paid less than your skills are worth.
EDIT: I'm friends with many physicists (of which I'm one), chemists, mathematicians and computer scientists. I'm willing to bet they all have better social lives than you.

At least these "geeks" you speak about would have far better grammar than yours. Besides, I love brainy, "geeky" guys. All that intelligence makes them sexy to me.
Dumb guys... well, not so much. In fact, not at all.
Loser.
