I will try to talk my son out of college, should he decide to go. Will be in senior high in the fall. My oldest didn't go to college, and has a decent job for now. And, he still believes what he was raised on.....Christianity. That is more important than a college education.

You fucking fail as a parent. Shame on you, I hope he goes to college and gets away from your loony ass.
Fucking people who advocate ignorance for Jesus end up making God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost all barf.
Gods damn, I hate people like this.
Yes, and we all strive to have decent jobs "for now". Why worry about the future? Why worry about learning and growing and making enough money to support a family? Society doesn't need anymore uneducated freeloaders, economically or socially. That, however, seems to be your goal. Hope and pray that your child does not get an education, expand his mind, think for himself, learn a trade - learn what he loves and makes him happy, not what makes you happy - basically, you want to prevent him from becoming his own person.
You should not breed.
...Oh, God.
This is just sad. He'd stop him going to college because it'd make him less ignorant and because he was "raised on christianity"
You are the worst parent ever.
Poor kid. First miss Trenchbull, now this as a parent.
Wait, isn't this a Matilda excerpt?
Yes, that's right, with the Rapture around the corner, why bother to do anything. Just sit and round and wait. God does not like productive members of society and pushes them all into the famous Lake of Fire.
It would've been easier to say that years ago when there were jobs that allowed a person to have a decent life without a college education.
The Republicans you vote for allowed 90% of those jobs to go away.
Congratulations, you're fucking retarded.
My parents were damn glad I went to college even more so when they became old and poor and I could give them financial support, thanks to my decent job that was not just "for now." But, not to worry, I'm sure HisAlways, Jr.'s job flipping burgers will enable him to secure wheelchair-parking space for the old man at the Dismal County Home for Destitute Seniors.
If his faith cannot survive four years of education, then it is a hollow faith. You have no confidence in your religion and thus are you a sinner. Get ready for hell.
But that's only if you believe in that crap.
"My oldest didn't go to college, and has a decent job for now."
Mowing lawns? Flipping burgers? Sweeping floors?
If he decides to go, and you try to stop him, you will lose him.
Who allowed you to breed, anyway?
Well I've learned something today. Apparently going to college makes you rich, intelligent, and compassionate.
I think this fundy is pretty disgusting, but some of the comments here are kind of whacked.
Going to college for something you love can bring you both money and happiness. However, I see plenty of damned miserable, ignorant, even near-penniless "educated" people at my college every day!
What the hell is wrong with flipping burgers or being unemployed?
That being said this is some pretty messed up parenting.. if her son wants to go to college, he shouldn't be talked out of it by a crazy parent.

Well, if you don't mind flipping burgers and being poor, nothing. However, if you'd rather do something else, or make some money, then that's going to be difficult without education.
Besides, all students are poor, education is no substitute for intelligence and being miserable is spread equally over the whole population
How 'Ya Gonna Keep 'Em Down on the Farm
(After They've Seen Paree)
Reuben, Reuben, I've been thinking
Said his wifey dear
Now that all is peaceful and calm
The boys will soon be back on the farm
Mister Reuben started winking and slowly rubbed his chin
He pulled his chair up close to mother
And he asked her with a grin
Chorus (sung twice after each verse):
How ya gonna keep 'em down on the farm
After they've seen Paree'
How ya gonna keep 'em away from Broadway
Jazzin around and paintin' the town
How ya gonna keep 'em away from harm, that's a mystery
They'll never want to see a rake or plow
And who the deuce can parleyvous a cow?
How ya gonna keep 'em down on the farm
After they've seen Paree'
Rueben, Rueben, you're mistaken
Said his wifey dear
Once a farmer, always a jay
And farmers always stick to the hay
Mother Reuben, I'm not fakin
Tho you may think it strange
But wine and women play the mischief
With a boy who's loose with change
Chorus (sung twice after each verse):
How ya gonna keep 'em down on the farm
After they've seen Paree'
How ya gonna keep 'em away from Broadway
Jazzin around and paintin' the town
How ya gonna keep 'em away from harm, that's a mystery
Imagine Reuben when he meets his Pa
He'll kiss his cheek and holler "OO-LA-LA!
How ya gonna keep 'em down on the farm
After they've seen Paree'?

Like Paris was a rite of passage for doughboys, this is what college students who have parents that pay their tuition and expenses face:

A decent job for now might not be in a few years. I spent a summer in an electronics factory in Worcester, MA as an assembler, which was "pretty godd" at the time. Very little effort, and I got more than I was spending in pocket money at the time. Today, putting Part A into Part B for 8 hours/day would be mind-numbingly boring, and you're a bad parent to give your kid a life sentence at underachieving.
Well, you can be either be an uneducated, very religious person, or an educated, very religious person.
I guess your dogma does technically say you don't have to care about him in this life. Jerk.
Oh yes, lets destroy little Johnny's dreams of being a lawyer because we don't like the educational system.
My oldest didn't go to college, and has a decent job for now.
Or, he can go to college and get a career that he loves instead of a dead beat job.
'My oldest didn't go to college, and has a decent job for now.'
What happens when he gets downsized? Christianity won't help, especially not fundy Christianity. I suspect HisAlways' real reason for trying to talk his son out of college is because it will teach his son to think OUTSIDE the narrow box of fundy dogma, and teach him to think for himself instead of allowing some asshole funda-MENTAL-ist pastor to think for him. That way, HisAlways & the Christo-fascists won't be able to control him - and that's what fundies are all about - CONTROL.
If you loved your son, you would want the best for him. You'd never want him to struggle, or to wonder where his next meal was coming from. You'd never want him to work 12 hour days at a job he hates just to keep a roof over his and his future children's heads. You'd want him to have an education, so he could do something better for himself.
But no, you don't love him. You only want him to be easily controlled, and easily placated with the answer "goddidit, now scrub the toilet!"
Fuck you.
It's fucking father's day. And you, fucker, suck at it.
That's okay, he'll live in the same trailer park as you, and you can have him, his wife, and kids as roommates when the mill gets shipped off to China.
Your a sick person, to want to keep your child attached to your apron strings by threats of hell fire, rather than let them go off to college to spread their wings.
If your hell existed, there would be a special place for you.
God on the human intellect:
"Here, I'm going to give you the greatest gift you'll ever get. NOW NEVER USE IT."
And when you're old and doddery you can proudly introduce your son as a 60 year old burger flipper.
Nice parenting skills there, dude.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a high-school diploma will land you with a 10.3% unemployment rate, compared with 5.4% for Bachelor degrees and 4% for Masters. The median weekly wage, full time, is 626$, compared with 1038$ and 1272$. It's a pretty fucking high price to pay to keep your sons ignorant.
Confused?
