Every parent, grandparent and those hoping to be should read the "Viewpoints" section of the Sunday Cape Cod Times (Young Voices, June 8) and be very alarmed.
Many warnings of the increasingly militant and graphic indoctrination of our children into the world of homosexuals preceded the writings of three (of the five) young people who in that section show clearly the extent of that indoctrination. The youngsters were invited to write on a "current event or contemporary issue of their choice" and three chose gay-related topics. Not the election, the war in Iraq; the tornado in Myanmar; the price of gas — just same-sex issues.
Every one of their arguments was straight out of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transsexual Handbook, including resurrecting the tragic specter of Matthew Shepherd.
The questions arise: Have these teens also been instructed on the history and value of heterosexual marriage? Told that for multi-millennia marriage between one man and one woman has been the foundation of all societies, in order that said societies may grow, increase and flourish? Or the fact that couples choosing to practice perverse ways of sexual gratification does not negate obvious biology nor justify the destruction of traditional marriage?

Have these teens also been instructed on the history and value of heterosexual marriage?
That would be off topic. The topic seems to be gay marriage.
Told that for multi-millennia marriage between one man and one woman has been the foundation of all societies, in order that said societies may grow, increase and flourish?
I hope not, because that's not true. Many societies recognized gay marriage as well as straight marriage.
Or the fact that couples choosing to practice perverse ways of sexual gratification does not negate obvious biology nor justify the destruction of traditional marriage?
Well, traditional marriage would be a 12 year old being married off against her will to an old man.
Every one of their arguments was straight out of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transsexual Handbook, including resurrecting the tragic specter of Matthew Shepherd.
Whereas your post is straight out of the Fundie Handbook, extra retarded version. Some improvement.
Told that for multi-millennia marriage between one man and one woman has been the foundation of all societies,
I was under the impression that most societies were formed from the necessity of sharing resources for the betterment of the group (communism actually works in minuscule groups) and that civilisations were formed by people being able to kill other people.
I haven't ever seen this handbook of which you speak. I have a few gay friends that would like to see it. Can you tell me how to get a copy, please? I mean, you should know, since you apparently know that is the source from which these kids got their information.
I'm sure this handbook is made of washable materials, as we all know the fags hump 24/7. Oh, and spend a couple minutes a day indoctrinating teens, too.
I have a handbook but it came from Japan. The translation might not be perfect, but the pictures are clear.
...which reminds me, I need to pick up a live octopus on my way home today.
"Have these teens also been instructed on the history and value of heterosexual marriage?"
Why, is it somehow relevant?
Told that for multi-millennia marriage between one man and one woman has been the foundation of all societies, in order that said societies may grow, increase and flourish?

Never mind the gender thing, she didn't even get the basic numbers right.
... We have a handbook?
(Btw, MilkyWay, ilu.)
"Not the election, the war in Iraq; the tornado in Myanmar; the price of gas"
Does the price of gas effect them? The tornado in Myanmar? The price in gas? The war in Iraq?
Indirectly sure, but not directly. Gay rights is something that effects them and their friends, so I'm not suprised at all.
"... the tornado in Myanmar;..."
When was there a tornado in Myanmar? Link, please...
"... for multi-millennia marriage between one man and one woman has been the foundation of all societies..."
That's not true and it's never been so. Learn some history.
"Or the fact that couples choosing to practice perverse ways of sexual gratification does not negate obvious biology nor justify the destruction of traditional marriage?"
No one wants to "destroy" marriage, despite your hyperbolic and unsubstantiated claims. But there's more to marriage than reproduction. And what gives you the right to deem something "perverse" just because you don't like it?
Funny how children are concerned about current issues like same-sex marriage.
Marriage has nothing to do with societies, economics and political ideology is far more important. Marriage is just an abstraction of reproduction into civil terms.
Same-sex marriage is not going to destroy society, idiots.
Same-sex marriage is not going to destroy society, idiots.
No, tornadoes in Myanmar will.
Many warnings of the increasingly militant and graphic indoctrination of our children into the world of christians preceded the writings of three (of the five) young people who in that section show clearly the extent of that indoctrination. The youngsters were invited to write on a "current event or contemporary issue of their choice" and three chose christian related topics. Not the election, the war in Iraq; the tornado in Myanmar; the price of gas just christian fundie issues.
That made more sense to my brain. homophobic christians are funny, they dont realize that christians are the real problems.
Every one of their arguments was straight out of the Bible, including resurrecting the tragic specter of jesus christ.
The questions arise: Have these teens also been instructed on the history and value of leaving christianity? Told that for multi-millennia Hinduism and Paganism has been the foundation of all societies, in order that said societies may grow, increase and flourish? Or the fact that idiots choosing to practice christianity and islam do not negate obvious bigotry nor justify the destruction of traditional religions?
"Told that for multi-millennia marriage between one man and
one woman has been the foundation of all societies, in
order that said societies may grow, increase and flourish?"
Think they used too much bleach in your brainwashing solution.
Since relationships seems to be the topic, what are the relationships between marriage and slavery? I'm too tired and grumpy right now to ridicule you as you deserve, but please look up what your god's laws are concerning a male Hebrew slave, his wife, their children, his freedom, and the alleged sanctity of marriage. Then explain how the origin of the twelve tribes of Israel fits with your talking point of "marriage between one man and one woman".
I come FROM Cape Cod. I wonder if Stebbins is a very recent washashore. After all, consider that that's where Provincetown is.
Acceptance of homosexual unions/marriage should have CONDUCTED from there by now.
"The questions arise: Have these teens also been instructed on the history and value of heterosexual marriage?"
"Every one of their arguments was straight out of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transsexual Handbook, including resurrecting the tragic specter of Matthew Shepherd. "
So.... disagree with them and they've been brainwashed by today's liberal media.
But agree with them on something, and they came about it on their own with their own opinions.
Riiiiiiight.
Does everyone know about this stupid handbook besides me? I'm always asking for a copy, or at least here I can get one, and I just plain can't find it anywhere! How come even the fundies are able to find it, but me, a bisexual, can't?!
Do you fail to see what has become of obvious biology? Traditional marriage?
Nothing is as it was a hundred years ago. A lot of people should suck it up and accept the change.
Gay, Lesbian, Bi, and Transsexual people are here. Deal with it.
Do you not realize that the war, gas prices, a presidential election, and natural disasters don't necessarily APPLY to teens? This exlcudes people who have loved ones in a war, or are financially broke, etc. etc.
The reason that the 3 of 5 teens chose Same-sex topics, is because that's what they are at in their lives right now. Puberty makes teen hormones go crazy; Puberty and the teen years are when they must go through what they like and don't like. There is nothing wrong with a boy liking another boy, or a girl liking another girl, or either gender liking BOTH genders. Even if a teen isn't gay, you don't think they know of gays in their school or ones who are their FRIENDS! Before I found I was gay, I had plenty of gay friends. You know how hard it can be on a gay or even sexually confused teen? I found my sexuality last year; it's fucking hard to be the same. Since America is so homophobic, teens who are sexually confused get screwed over, thinking that they have to marry the opposite sex.
People like you piss me off. Love can be between any two people; it DOES NOT have to be a man and a woman. Marriage should be the same. Get your head out of your ass and realize that homosexual people are just the same!
I still don't see how marriage is such a big deal that it is the foundation of societies to grow, increase, and flourish, but that's just me.
Why do fundies think that all gays ever do is have sex and indoctrinate children? Are they pissed because that's supposed to be their job?
On a serious note, as someone else pointed out, "traditional" marriage IS a very young girl with little or no rights being married off to some hoary old bastard who may already have multiple wives. You think gay marriage is bad because you think its "immoral"? As little as a few centuries ago, you could have been married as child, most likely against your will. Take a look in a fucking history book, or look at the plight of girls in third world countries before you spout off, you ignorant twerp.
Yeah, three kids chose gay-related topics because they had the freedom to choose about something that they're interested in - that's what happens when you give people freedom.
Teens might be interested in the price of gas, too, if they're cool and they have a car.
I picked up a copy of the GLBT Handbook at the latest meeting of the Homosexual Agenda, btw. We meet on the other side of town from the Atheist Agenda, so most of you might have missed it.
For my Government class, we had to pair up and write a term paper on a governmental issue. My partner and I chose gay marriage as our topic. Both of us are heterosexual females. We never read any such "handbook" that you have mentioned. We just thought that it was an important and interesting issue to research. And yes, both of us support marriage rights for homosexuals. And both of us know that the concept of marriage has evolved throughout the years. For many years and for many societies, marriage was between one man and multiple women, Patricia. Your notion of marriage traditionally being a monogamous union is false and your fears about "indoctrination" are needless.
P.S. Mayhem for the win.
There's a handbook?! Why am I always the last to know? And where can I get a copy?
Seriously though, most kids are probably going to write about whatever is closest to home.
Ms Stebbins would be outraged if students actually were be taught the history and value of heterosexual marriage, in view of the fact she is wrong about the claim that monogamy has been the foundation of all societies. It sure wasn't the practice in Australia, Africa, North or South Amercia, India, China, Japan... in fact for most of the world for most of history.
As to it's value, it certainly isn't the form of marriage that Jesus praised! Monogamy was the practice of the pagan Romans.
@Skynight & Brian X - that makes three of us appalled to share geography with her.
I don't think she's a recent washashore, though. I think I've been reading her letters for quite a while.
what have grandparents to do with anything?
Is this woman supporting their right to interfere if the parents aren't fundie enough?
PS I'm still waiting for my Gay handbook, and the enclosed agenda. I want the pullout application form to claim my 14 year old boy to sodomise
We have a handbook?
Where can I get a copy?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
