[on the ambiguous, poetic nature of Biblical prophecies]

It doesn't have to be literal, it just has to be true. Prophecies sometimes aren't literal, but they're still true.

There's just the tiny complication that if they aren't literal, they cannot possibly be false, since interpretations can vary wildly from person to person.

The rationalisation skills of the fundy are amazing: they can turn any event, no matter how inconsequental, into a "glorious fulfillment" of any prophecy mentioned in the bible, or their dogma.

*dog takes a dump on the street*
fundy: "THE END OF THE WORLD IS NEAR!!!!!"

Reverend Jeremiah

Interesting..so If I said; "I predict that Christianity will die out within a week." and it doesnt happen, then I can say: "I never said what week it would die out in.", you can also say "he was speaking spiritually, he meant that there will be many fake Christians out there, but that REAL Christians will follow Jesus, not religion."..man I can have lots of fun with this.

This is one of the most pathetic of Christian arguments, the whole prophecy thing. Gotta love fundies.
