I had to read the bible in school. I grew up in a conservative part of Germany, where the social pressure to be member of a christian church was immense, and religious class for church members was mandatory.
So I was teached the bible. Intensively. I can assure, I know this book. Of course, I hated it, like I hated most school classes.
Interestingly, after finishing school, I became actually interested in the topics. I read about History. I read about Geography. Without the pressure from school, it started to make sense, and was actually fun. I even started to enjoy doing sports.
The only topic I reject until today is religion. I read the bible, again, and every time it made as less sense as it did in school.
Yes, religious class and bible sessions turned me into an atheist. On the contrary, school didn't manage to turn me into an 'anti-philosopher', 'anti-biologist', 'anti-physicist' or similiar. Only religious class.
Sure, because religion is the only outspoken nonsense that is taught at school.
