(I felt important to submit this one because Fundie X-ians always say that homosexuality is a CHOICE...but apparently... 2/3 of the way down in the thread...)

"I read your testimony about a month ago. What a wonderful testimony! Being formerly lesbian, do you still struggle with attractions for women? I have been having a horrible time with struggling with that and sometimes my mind goes too far. I often find myself asking for forgiveness. I know that I don't want to be a lesbian because I know it is wrong in the eyes of God, but I just cannot seem to stop being attracted to women.

Does the bible even say anything at all about lesbians? I know it prescribes death for any man who is teh ghey, several times, but I can't recall any mention of women.

ETA: Brain_In_A_Jar, it does say that no one who's homosexual will go to heaven, so I guess that does mean lesbians...

There's a verse in I Corinthians, I think it is, that specifically talks about women laying with women. But otherwise most of the places that I can remember from my day's as a christian specifically refer to men with men. So for the most part god doesn't seem to mind lesbians. Of course in the Old Testament, 'god' seemed more concerned with women laying with animals, or guys sleeping with their aunts than he/she/it was with banning evils like slavery or genocide.

Though, something the Christians tend to forget is that lying, stealing, cheating, etc, are 'also' listed as abominations to god not just homosexuality. You'd think that they'd pay attention but....

What a tragedy that people have to live in such conflict between who they really are and some idiot religion's ancient mistranslated rules about who they "should" be.

News flash: Heterosexuals are attracted to the opposite gender and homosexuals are attracted to the same gender. People who honestly don't know this, based on their personal experience, and insist it is a matter choice are clearly bisexual and choose not to act on their attraction to those of the same sex--or at least don't admit to it until caught, like certain fundie ministers and right-wing politicians whom have made headlines in recent years.

Yeah. I used to be like this, back when I was a Catholic. I thought I had a disorder named bisexuality, and tried to focus instead on liking guys.

But of course, it didn't work. It was only a small part of the reasons that I left Christianity, though.

Poor old Suzi. Kid, you should live your life for you, not for Jehovah. I'll give you a piece of advice I think every mother has given every child from the dawn of history. "If you have to change everything about yourself to be friends with someone then you don't need that person as a friend." Do you enjoy hanging out with people who hate you for being yourself?

That's just not healthy.

There's no point going any further in to the closet, there's nothing there. You can change sexualities about as much as you can change your shoe size and you need to learn to live with that. if you don't you're just going to end up miserable.

That, and the urge to go torch a Bible or something. It's sickening to realize that there are people out there who are lying to themselves like this because some fundie asshat has brainwashed them into deep self-loathing based on the poorly-translated words of some ancient book of the superstitions of a bunch of desert people.
