[The original post was about homosexuality, and LSP1 believes it is wrong.]
I agree that the bible teaches about love, forgiveness, etc., but why should we choose to only read and believe those verses and ignore the other ones?

So, you know any women? They wait outside the town while having their period, right? Did you stone anyone who picked up so much as a stick last Saturday? What about dashing your kid's heads against rocks when they get uppity?
Good point. Examining the Bible as a whole shows what a sadistic, insecure, hypocritical, vicious monster you really worship.

What are you talking about LSP1? Christians love to ignore stuff that doesn't suit their agenda. For instance: right-wing, laissez faire Christians love to quote "If any will not work, neither let him eat."
But the whole passage says:
2 Thes 3.9 not because we have not the right, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you, that ye should imitate us. 10For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, If any will not work, neither let him eat.
If it is "not because we have not the right", it is because we do have the right. We have the right to eat whether we work or not.
NT for communism!
Yeah, really. All that love and other sissy stuff is not nearly as satisfying as some real kick-ass condemnation and violence. God didn't want any of us guys to feel uncomfortable acting like wimps, loving and forgiving and all. That is why he gave us so many choices in his holy in how to behave. If you don't like one set of rules you read in the bible you can just read farther until you find a reason to act in the way that suited you better in the first place.
Thou shalt not kill. If you take that out of context you might come to the conclusion that God did not want you to kill other people. Anyone with a lick of Biblical sense can figure out that only means not to kill the people that God loves. Anyone else is fair game. It says right there that they are all sinners deserving of death. You are just doing the holy work of God if you waste them yourself. That is what makes God so great. He had the good sense to write his holy scriptures in such a way that it does not make me do anything I did not want to do in the first place. He left all these great escape clauses scattered around in his holy book.
And what’s more, his stuck a couple of sentences here and there in the New Testament that let me know that no matter what I do I can get forgiveness and still enjoy eternal bliss in heaven. All I have to do is confess that he is the one and only God, confess my sins and after that I can do whatever the hell I feel like and know that I am forgiven. What a great God and what a great system. I can’t figure out why some of you don’t want to get in on a deal like that.
And all that stuff Jesus said about giving to the poor. If you take that literally, you might think that Jesus was concerned about all the deadbeats that don’t work hard like you and me. Again, you are taking the words of Jesus out of context. Jesus was no hippy liberal. What he really meant was that you hold out food and medical care and such as a lure to get people to convert to Christianity.
Jesus meant for all his children to be rich beyond belief. And it is better if their wealth comes at the expense of the wicked. It also makes it easy to tell which of us God loves and which ones are God’s enemies. Just look at the cars they drive and the houses they live in. My Mercedes and my Lexus as well as my new 8 bedroom, 6 bath 5,000 square foot McMansion all bear witness to the heathen that God loves me. Isn’t God great!!
The second part of the bible, which concerns the life and teachings of a certain Jesus, introduces the concept of love and forgiveness.
Unfortunately, Paul did not understand that. Thus, we have been stuck with a misconception ever since.
The message of Love of Jesus is basically in conflict with the savagery and bloodlust that also appears in the bible. It's perfectly natural, then, that people cherry pick according to their particular prejudice, for there is no reasonable way that hatred and love can be reconciled. Basically the bible is a schizophrenic almalgam of violence, bloodlust, controlling, and sheer lunacy - and a little bit of the Jesus love throwm in. One can take what one wants from it. In the end, a bible thumper shows him/herself in true colours when they spew forth their favoured verses from that book.
Finally...some (unintentional) honesty!
Here is someone who is all too ready to ignore the good parts of the Bible in favor of the bad ones, and yet is so completely out of it as to still support the Bible while doing so (or, perhaps, disturbing as it may be, BECAUSE of doing so...)! A bizarro fundie if I ever saw one...
Confused?
