Quote# 41642

[On "One night in Bangkok"]

It's great to see the long version of this song. Oh... just FYI for those into trivia... this song is illegal in Thailand. It was outlawed by the Thai government back in the 80's because it insults their pagan god "Buddha".

[Someone corrects them, telling them Bhudda is not a god]

Smilingschip, I knew that someone was going to say that. While some follow him merely for his antichrist teachings, Buddha is in fact most certainly worshipped by thousands of people, therefore making him a "god". Buddhism is a religion and there is no such thing as a religion without a god. Buddhism is a religion because Buddha is worshipped as a god. There are colleges to educate you on these things.

Haha. Dumb but not really fundie.

Mr Blur

But presumably you'd be thrilled if a song was made illegal in your country because it insulted your own particular imaginary friend? Thought so.

6/25/2008 8:39:44 AM

dpareja

So by this, then, atheism and evolution aren't religions?

I R Smurt, rite?

"Buddhism is a religion and there is no such thing as a religion without a god."

Yes there is.

It's called 'buddhism'.

Just because you say it ain't doesn't make it so.

If you compare the 'love and peace'teachings of JC in the NT with the bloodthirsty rants of Jehovah in the OT the boy comes over as positively buddhist!

Anyway - have you ever bother to study the tennets of buddhism? No, of course not, you are just going by what your pastor told you...

Milking the Catz

Roflmao @ the last sentence.

BTW, I wouldn't call Buddhism a religion so much as a philosophy.

Pyroclasm

It's a shame that you can't wrap your mind around the concepts presented in some eastern religions. Oh well.

"There are colleges to educate you on these things."

Like the non accredited college that Kunt Hovind went to, yes?

While some follow him merely for his antichrist teachings...

Anti-Christ? What, like this?

Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.

I can see why you would consider Buddhism to be "anti-Christ". How dare that nasty slope tell people to rely on their own reason and common sense!

Buddha is in fact most certainly worshipped by thousands of people...

So is Doctor Who--especially Tom Baker. If you want my personal opinion I think you're confusing veneration with worship.

...therefore making him a "god".

Carrying on with the Doctor Who example...does the "worship" and veneration of Tom Baker or Patrick Troughton by millions world-wide make them "gods"?

...there is no such thing as a religion without a god.

You'll hold true to this statement until it's time to start bashing atheism. As soon as you need to do that atheism (and science) will suddenly qualify as a religion.

Buddhism is a religion because Buddha is worshipped as a god.

Let's try looking at this from a slightly different perspective...

Star Trek is a religion because Captain James T. Kirk is worshiped as a god. Hmmm...doesn't quite work; does it?

There are colleges to educate you on these things.

I know you can't be referencing any of the secular colleges and universities. I bet you think Bob Jones University (BJU.....hee hee hee hee!) is really neat.

You might want to take your own advice and take a college course that touches on Buddhism. It's a very basic fact that there are Buddhists who believe Buddha to be a god-like figure and there are those who do not. The fact that some do, does not make him a god for all Buddhists anymore than Catholic views of Mary apply to all Christians.

Further more, worshipping someone or something does not make them a god. While, it's true that Buddhists generally worship Buddha, worship is not something given exclusively to a god. For example, people can worship someone as a god or they can worship someone as a sacred person. Clearly, you are not only in need of college courses, but a dictionary as well.

It's a shame you never got into those colleges. It would have saved you from looking like an idiot on the internet.

Buddha is quoted in Buddhist holy texts saying he is NOT a god.

The point of Buddhism is to become a "buddha," an "enlightened one." You fail.

There are Buddhists who could educate you on such things.

6/25/2008 11:05:42 AM

That's okay, the whole post is wrong. A friend of mine from Thailand tells me the song is quite popular there.PS There are no "colleges" to educate you to these kind of theistic lies. There are "fundie indoctrination centers" that give farcial degrees in fundie propaganda.

6/25/2008 11:07:23 AM

Mister Spak

"Buddha is in fact most certainly worshipped by thousands of people, therefore making him a "god". "

So that would make your Jesus worshipping a religion?

Ah, typical "I'm right and you're wrong" arrogance.

Budda did not have antichrist teachings as he was born a good 500 years before Jesus. You can't teach against a man that hasn't even been born yet.

I'm worshipped by Mrs Smith. Does that make me a god too?

Another fundies seem to believe that his religion has some kind of legally established copyright to the word god .Sorry fundies their are many many gods and many many religion that preach and teach their god is the one true god and every else's god sucks.
The god 'fairytale' is a widely used one and you jerk offs don't have the sole copyright to it. Any delusional fool can worship a make believe deity .

In all my extensive reading on Buddhism and Buddhist philosophy, never once did I run across a passage or a proverb that indicated "Buddha Worship".

FAIL.
