A woman down the street from me lost her husband a few years ago and I got to know her a bit during that time. She had attended our church for a while but she's way out there now with these false teachers. She's a bit off herself but is always cordial and nice.
Anyway, I hear from another neighbor that she's housing homless people in her basement. For a bit it was a man and a woman. Not sure who's there now. I did notice a car that looked like it was falling apart (and lived in) and a very dishelved woman leaning up against it smoking. Not to be rude but it caught my eye. I thought maybe she was a down and out cleaning lady.
Well, the thought of someone going out of their way to help the homeless and open up their doors to them is a good thing. BUT as mom of 3 little ones the thought of drifters living just a few houses down is concerning.
I feel bad assuming that these homeless people have criminal intents but I worry about it. Once in a blue moon is one thing but I worry we've got a halfway house situation here.

Doesn't your book say somehting about 'what you have done to the least of these....you have done to me'?
So you have this cordial and nice lady, who is ACTUALLY doing good works, and "she's way out there now with these false teachers." and you say this because she left your church, or is it because, you have bought off on the whole mega-church its ok to keep your money and get rich because thats wjwd (what jesus would do) if he was here now, deal.
So all those passages about charity, and kindness and loving your neighbors and the meek inheriting and all that is just a load of crap right? Just admit it...
What? Don't you trust Jesus to protect you?
WWJD? Yeah, he'd kick those poor people into someone else's neighborhood, that's what!
How do you know it's not just her kids or grandkids or some other relative?
"...a car that looked like it was falling apart (and lived in) and a very dishelved woman..."
So, never seen a college student, huh?
Sure, she's helping homeless people, and being charitable, and all that hoopla, BUT THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!1!!!11! (specifically, my children...)
Not really fundie, but this person's not a good Christian.
Remember, what would Jesus do with homeless people?
And yet Christ himself spoke of helping the poor and needy: "Whatever you do for the least of [my people], you do for me" Matthew 25:40. It's pretty fucking sad that I, an avowed atheist, know more about the Bible than you do.
Legitimate concern or not, she FAILS with a capital 'F' at Christianity. She is supposed to be helping those homeless people too. If she trusts in Jesus she should be expecting him to protect her little ones from harm while she does her 'good works that bear fruit' but as we all know fundies don't actually read the Bible, they skim the parts they agree with and ignore the rest.
i know plenty of people with criminal intents who have homes
quick pagal, everyone is out to get you, they fool you with their home ownership, but they're out to get you -- run away!
Do you remember what Jesus said about rich people, camels and needles eyes? Your behavior, pagal, shows clearly that, because of this you would be one of those people who would be left behind if there really were a rapture ;)
this is not very fundie...she says she admires the person for being willing to open her doors to the homeless, but that having them living there makes her nervous for her kids. frankly it would make most people nervous, though many of them would probably deny it. it's a legitimate concern. I don't think the "way out there with false teachers" bit was related to to housing the homeless thing at all, just an explanation of why they are no longer at the same church.
Legitimate concern, my ass!
If the bitch is legitimately concerned, why doesn't she actually go talk to her "always cordial and nice" neighbor and find out what the real situation is and how she can help rather than merely spreading gossip and fear-mongering among other neighbors and on a fucktarded website?
Actually, this is about the least crazy thing I’ve yet to see on Rapture Ready. Helping and housing homeless people is definitely a good thing. But homeless people are just like everyone else: there are good and bad among them. They also have unique problems that contribute to their homelessness; and, for many of them, proper housing only addresses part of a larger issue.
This is precisely why there are such stringent-seeming rules at well-run shelters. It’s precisely why professionals in the field must maintain a certain amount of distance.
For every ten decent homeless people, there’s one really dangerous individual and there’s no immediate way to tell the difference.
There are a lot of ways this woman could help the homeless directly ways that don’t involve endangering herself or those around her. She could even house a few of them, working through a program that vets applicants before placing them in residential situations.
@ Jezebel's Evil Sister
you have a point
This is 'fundie' because this Rapture Redian is saying negative things about the woman with her 'false teachings,' even though she's trying to help people. Sure she's feeding and housing the homeless, but what about believing in Jezus!?
And she's generalizing about homeless people. She's upset at them being there rather than being glad that they're getting some kind of help. And she's mainly worried about her kids, even though they're several houses away. Give me a break. Heaven forbid someone help homeless people out. I certainly don't see this upstanding christian getting involved.
So these false teachers are telling her that Jesus wants her to help the down and out? How fucking evil.
Her quote later on is just stupid.
I know we should have a heart for these people ....I guess it's just close to home. Literally.
So I guess we're only supposed to see them on TV and throw money into the red kettle at Christmas. Whoops can't do that because the Salvation Army are false Christians. Guess we should just Tsk, Tsk from our safe locked cars.
Edit:
To those who say this isn't fundie. Criminals don't have houses? I live in a fairly wealthy neighbourhood, the most expensive house on the block was a grow-op, a house two blocks away burnt down in a meth cooking accident, and I suspect two other houses of being grow-ops (Seriously, who NEVER puts out garbage or recycling?).
People who live in houses don't have mental illnesses? People who live in houses don't rape, rob, murder? People who live in houses don't have drug problems? But yeah, be afraid of the poor guy whose out on the street, he's different, he smells, he probably has a drug habit. How many kids are hurt by people they know compared to strangers? Strangers are not the ones to fear, you can warn kids about strangers. How do you warn a child about the dangers close to home without making them neurotic freaks who fear everything?
And before you ask, yes I have brought the homeless into my home, and no I'm not a Christian.
Confused?
