It's precisely how we Atheists can discern that the likes of "On the Origin of Species" by Charles Darwin, "A Brief History of Time" by Prof. Stephen Hawking" and "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins are fact, and the "Harry Potter" series are fiction. Oh, and speaking of which...:

A: One is a widely read work of literature that is sold by the shipload, and greatly loved by millions, which has opened up the joy of reading to children worldwide (even the First Children, Sasha & Malia Obama love reading such); with a great and noble central figure who overcomes the forces of Evil, with dignity, humility & sacrifice. And - as a result of it's popularity - has had many films based on such.
The other is the Bible.
