Hey if you really want to get freaked out about CERN, go back to their webpage you linked too and look closely at their logo. Now, what three numbers does that look like to you? I'm not saying anything, it's just "interesting". As to your comments...I wouldn't be surprised at all if their more going on here than what they are letting on. Believe me, the CERN thing gets weirder and weirder, but I don't want your thread thrown in the shed.

Conseil Europeen pour la Recherche Nucleaire or the European Council for Nuclear Research. It's in Geneva on the border between Switzerland and France.
Sure, their logo isn't as dramatic as Coca-Cola or MacDonald's, but that's scientists for you. Besides, the Swiss aren't too strong on ostentation.
However, I do sympathize with you about the research CERN is engaged in. I can't understand it either since I have very little (almost nonexistent) background in nuclear physics.
One of my daughter's former playmates is now a nuclear physicist in CERN. Recently, he was attempting to explain to me the work he was involved in. My eyes glazed over and my brain went into meltdown.
How weird is that?
"Now, what three numbers does that look like to you?"
69d?
666d?
666dd, that's all of them.
Well, I'm stumped.
Three circles with 5 lines?
I thought it looked like the classic demstration of newtonian physics of things travel in a straight line unless another force acts upon it.
I was wrong:
It took me all of four minutes to find this info courtesy of wikipedia:talk.
The CERN logo depicts the PS, SPS and LEP (now LHC) accelerators with the lines coming of each ring representing the injection lines from the smaller accelerator leading into the successive larger ones.
There are five lines there, so there is no way it could even be 666. 66666 maybe, but I don't remember any passage about that in the Bible.
Hell, I thought the number was 616 anyway.
If you fundies really want to get freaked out, read up on what's going on in there. Yeah, shit you're babble never talked about let alone dreamed of.
Careful; investigating CERN's purpose may disprove superstitions and I know how much you guys like those.
If you look at that logo for alphanumeric characters, you get two sixes, a nine and two letter "p"s. Oh, and the name "CERN". Evidently your matching tolerance for the mark of the beast is a little wide.
There's only two circles and five "tails", none really looking like a six at all.
Of course taking into your own understanding is the work of the devil. So we shouldn't try to figure out what makes the universe tick.
Question: Did the original bible even use modern Hindu-Arabic decimal numerals? Or are these idiots looking for "666" when they should be looking for "DCLXVI", or the equivalent in the Greek or Hebrew systems? (Not impressed, Google - conversion to Roman numerals but not to Greek?)
What scientific instrument does that look like? I'm going to say something because you idiot fundies wouldn't know a microscope from a doorstop.
The logo looks like a particle accelerator. And what is CERN?
IT'S A FUCKING PARTICLE ACCELERATOR!!!!!!!
I suppose if you really stretch your imagination it looks kinda like a 666.
I also suppose that if you really stretch your imagination the hairball my cat just hacked up looks kinda like the Virgin Mary.
Point is, people see what the want to see, believe what they want to believe.
If this gizmo was built anywhere in the USA these prawns would take no notice of it at all. It's foreign therefore it's suspect and probably diabolical.
Does your FBI monitor these paranoia sites? I can well see some of the posters or lurkers rolling up outside laboratories, clinics, political headquarters with a farm truck filled with Nitropril.

It could have been 666 but if it was there would only be three stems. I see five. There would also be three overlapping circles. I see only two.
Sorry WordyTrees but your conspiracy theory gets an F grade. Now, who's next?
If you look closely at it, it does, indeed, look like numbers.
Specifically, I'm counting 4, possibly 5, sixes. I don't think that's what you're getting at though.
So I take it you don't know what a particle accelerator track looks like.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
