"Of course people in Canada would say this. They've bought the socialist lies hook, line, and sinker."
What a piss off. What, so everyone other than Americans is just a brainwashed drone? I hate this "America is number one, we're the best, everyone else is stupid!" crap.
For the record, I live in Alberta, which is by far the most conservative province in the country. I've grown up surrounded by people who tried to instill all kinds of conservative values in me. I had to listen to people talking about the evils of socialism, liberalism, atheism, homosexuality, etc. since I was a little kid. Despite all that, I've managed to turn out as a liberal atheist who supports incorporating socialist principles into a mostly capitalist society and believes that gays are deserving of equal rights. I arrived at these beliefs on my own, after thinking for MYSELF instead of listening to others.
You, frodo82801, are the one who has bought into the religious lies -- hook, line and sinker.
Public health care rules. If it weren't for public health care, I'd be dead. My family wouldn't have been able to afford any of the numerous medical procedures I've had to have done over the years, and we couldn't afford insurance either. One of the surgical procedures I had to undergo would have costs tens of thousands of dollars in the US, and would have only been available to me if I had either had insurance or could have shown that I could afford it prior to the operation. It wouldn't have been done, and I would have died. Because I live in Canada, the surgery didn't cost me a dime, and I got to live.
Should I have had to earn the right to live? I was ten-years-old when the surgery was done. Should I have been denied the treatment because my parents didn't make enough money? Do I have no right to live just because my parents aren't wealthy?
Our hospitals function perfectly well. The only reason these people hate public health care is: They've been told it's evil, and accepted that without doing their own research. Brainwashed fundie morons.
