Where in scripture does it say that?

Catholics point to the following: "And I [Jesus] say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:18-19)

They believe the Catholic Church exists as an unbroken chain from Jesus to Peter to those to whom Peter passed on the power to loose and bind through what they call the "sacrament of ordination". One may question the existence of the chain, and one may interpret Matthew differently, but it's hard to see how they can be accused of ignoring scripture.

No, we believe in salvation through faith. We happen to take it a step further and say that the only way to have that faith is through action.

You don't understand the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The Catholic Church does teach that if we ask God for forgiveness, and are truly sorry, He will forgive us, priest or not. The Sacrament exists because some people like to have a ceremony to bring the experience of forgiveness alive.

Actually, I went to Catholic school for 7 years and this lady doesn't know shit. The Catholics who at the time were the only Christians (before the Eastern/Roman split over the papal succession in 1054 AKA The Great Schism), went through all known books and letters and decided which ones had enough merit to be in the New Testament. These books and letters along with the Old Testament were the Bible until 1604 at which point the King James Version of the Bible was made. This version has less books and letters and has some specific passages taken out (notably from the Book of Wisdom). These were taken out to serve the purposes of King James; this was not the first English Bible which despite being illegal at the time was printed in the 15th century and usually dated 1409 to prevent legal ramifications.
Also, by definition of Christianity, Catholics are Christian and they were the first Christians. They can trace a direct line of papal and priestly authority (i.e. Acting in persona Christi’/in the person of Christ’) to St. Peter in Matt 16:18-19.
On the issue of confession, in I Cor. 5:3-5 St. Paul writes of priest’s forgiving the sins of people and they can do this because they are acting in the person of Christ’. They get their authority from God through the Pope and the sacraments (of penance and holy orders) because, when a priest is ordained they are given the authority from the pope and the original pope got his authority from Jesus and then passed it down through the generations.
So basically, Protestantism is heresy against the one church Jesus founded. And by the way, I’m proud to say I learned all this without being indoctrinated but, I’m not so proud I remember it.
