I stopped reading when I realised that Nate_paine takes conspiracy theories seriously. That really says it all.

That is the difference between you and me. You NEED there to be something else, something to give your life meaning. I make my own meaning in life.

People change their lives, yes, but also become obnoxiously superstitious and stupid.
It's like ...

Doesn´t sound fundie to me, though.
He believes christianity is superior, but doesn´t say that all other religions are false, or that all people weho don´t interpret the bible literal are sinners who go to hell.
He sounds more like a liberal christian to me who accepts that other people have othr beliefs than himself

I can see how the thought of having to take responsibility for youself would "bother" you.

@Mattural Selection:
Seconded.
I have never in my life had an issue with accepting that life was an accident of nature.
We're "special" for the simple fact that we exist at all, not because some impossible being got bored with his eternal existence and decided to wish for some cool pets.

Mein Kampf also is a historical document and has caused people to change their lives... Does not make it a "good book".

Stop confusing a sense of "something larger" with gods and goddesses. That's the chimpanzee part of the brain at work.
Start reading credible books on a variety of topics. You just might find that humans are capable of more than you give them credit for.

Because all other religions are about kicking puppies and stealing candy from children and just all about being a generally awful human being.

I'm afraid he is mistaken. "The Message" is actually a record by Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five. It's an easy mistake to make though.

If only you, Nate, could write in a modern language that anyone understands. Your stream of unconsciousness simply doesn't work.
Learn how to read (apart from your 'historical document') and you might learn how to write. It could change your life.

Ahhh, so if you don't understand or like one particular version of the goddamned bible, you can just go out and buy one you like, problem solved? Just get one that agrees with your dumbass perspective?
Why the fuck didn't I think of that?
Actually, on my road to deprogramming the religious bullshit crammed into my head as a kid, I tried exactly that. I had quite a collection of different versions of the bible. I found they are all filled with the same shit, expressed in different languages. Shit is shit, no matter how you package it.

"it all boils down to leading a good life"
Actually, Sparky, that's what all the major world's religions boil down to. You might wanna take some time to talk to other funder-heads and see what they think about your thoughts on Christianity. A good deal of them will tell you that leading a good life is meaningless and irrelevant in God's eyes.

One thing that bothers me, are atheists.
We're not "things". We're people.
i have had atheist freinds, they are great people.
"Some of my best friends are n*****s."
if you compare all the major religions, christianity comes out on top. it is simple.
Is that why there are more Hindus and Muslims than Christians?
it all boils down to leading a good life.
Not according to every pastor, elder, believer, and missionary I've spoken to on this subject. From what they've told me (and what is explicitly spelled out in the Bible) it all boils down to spiritual participation in a bloody and agonizing Human sacrifice--or "accepting Christ as your personal Lord and savior" as the Christians would have it.
