Actually, it is much simpler than that, and has nothing to do with values (stupid "religion means morality" crock...). It is just basic ingroup bias. In this case, they share the shame religion as you, so that is a basis of similarity. And, since they are like you, they must be good!

Close-ish. The decision to be an atheist really has nothing to do with morality, either positively or negatively, however. It really is just a lack of belief in god(s), and not much beyond that. My values are drawn from the society I live in, empathy, and simple logic, and has nothing to do with unbelief itself. And I do not believe that lack of belief leads to better morality for anyone, anymore than I believe that religiosity increases morality either.

A splendid assumption. Care to explain why the kids would be perturbed if they intentionally provoked the others into anger, or why they would confide in their father if they were at fault? They would hide it and roll with the punches if they were instigating the other children.

Seriously, he can't imagine this? This is far more common of an occurence than an atheist going on an anti-god tirade in public.

Racism may be taught, but it is also an extension of basic ingroup bias, an extension of the human ego. Atheism may be taught, but it is also the default state before children are taught about a given religion to adopt. As for the allegation that atheism stunts atheists socially: that is only because everyone else is opposed to socializing with people who are openly atheist!

Just because something goes against the majority doesn't make it wrong (hell, remember when the majority of our country WAS racist, not too long ago...). And, as for the resentment part: did you even listen to the original post? Did you hear about the kinds of kids he has? The only resentment that an atheist would have is towards family members and sections of society that are motivated by religious bigotry. That's pretty much the end of that, however.

Except, you do not KNOW that the shark is there, that it is a shark, where the shark is, what the shark's intentions are, and whether your methods of saving the person going in the water is more destructive than the actual danger posed
