Even if you believe the unrestrained silliness in the Bible, you then have the fact that God is not very nice. Not very nice at all.

I didn't need to read one-tenth of that dismal tome to know it's bollocks. As a lapsed catholic I guess I fall into the christian-turned-atheist camp, even if not by most fundies' definition of a christian.
If I had put myself through the agony of reading the bible I probably would have converted to atheism even sooner.

judging by what I've seen, many of them are atheists *because* they read the bible carefully, and actually paid attention to what it said, not what their pastor said it said.
