Quote# 42439

[In response to the OP, who asks whether or not the members on this board would refuse to befriend someone based on that person's sexual orientation.]

Well I do care and wouldn't be friends with a homosexual or a bisexual, etc... I don't consider myself racist or sexist either because I like all colors of people which is the exact opposite of racist and I'm not sexist because I think men and women are equal. I wish people would use terminology correctly when dealing with this subject. I am die hard conservative protestant and homosexuality is against my religion. I don't hate them but I will not condone it and will not allow my children around them- so that answers the other question. No my kids would not be allowed to play with theirs. I don't want that kind of lifestyle flaunted around my kids. I don't want them to think it's "ok" to be that way. I am not rude to homosexuals but my beliefs are my beliefs and I'm going to try my hardest to raise my kids with some moral fiber. My husband has a lesbian grandma and I am not rude to her or her partner but she knows how I feel about it- they both do. I told them how I felt and we have a mutual respect, which is basically that one is grandma and the other is a "friend." Also that if there lifestyle starts sparking odd questions amongst the boys then my hubby and I will probably discontinue visiting, etc... We don't really see her often anyways so it probably won't be an issue. So there it is and I'm sure I'll be bashed eventhough I haven't bashed anyone elses opinions on the matter.

"I wish people would use terminology correctly when dealing with this subject."

Okay, you are a homophobic bigot.

Bitch. Remember, those precious boys of yours will be the ones putting you and your hubby in the old folks home, and they'll remember the wonderful 'respect your elders' that they were taught when they couldn't go see Grandma and her girlfriend anymore, and were told who they could and couldn't be friends with. Hope you enjoy being warehoused.

I feel the same way about hard conservative protestants...but at least I would let my kids play with your indoctrinated spawn, even if you do not extend the same privilege to the folk that you have arbitrary qualms with.

Somehow, I don't think you've quite grasped this homosexuality lark...

Rude awakening time: If you've got 10 or more friends, you probably are already.

You may discontinue visiting your husband's flesh and blood over that? So much for family values.

She has Jesus and the Bible, what other friends could she ask for?

I fail to see how this is terribly outrageous. She doesn't have flames coming out her nostrils, and she says she doesn't hate homosexuals. That's progressive for a fundy. We may disagree with her beliefs, but as long as she is not trying to deprive anyone of their rights she is entitled to hold them. And she doesn't seem to be trying to foist her beliefs off on others.

@Old Viking: What about her kids? She seems hell-bent on making sure they grow up fundie bigots too.

She may be a homophobe, but at least she's polite about it. Remember, everybody's entitled to their opinion, even if it's moronic. I don't really see this as fundie, just as misguided. It'd be different if she was swearing and threatening people with hellfire.

Amanda, is it not still racism if I say my kids can't play with their kids, or if I won't eat at a restaurant where a lot of them hang out?

I don't have to flood a board with the word nigger to be a shithead.

I have to agree with Old Viking. She has the right to raise her kids how she wants and she has the freedom of speech. We don't have to agree with her, but at least she's civil about it.

So you lie to your sons, because you can't beat to expose them to new ideas. Oh no! They might develop a different opinion based on experience rather than your idiotic bigotry. Can't have those boys thinking!

Oh, and, BTW, if you "wouldn't be friends with a homosexual or a bisexual," why is that? You said you didn't want your boys thinking it's ok to be gay, which explains why gay buddies are verboten for them, but what about you? Are you afraid that real life gay people will change your tiny little mind?

So there it is and I'm sure I'll be bashed eventhough I haven't bashed anyone elses opinions on the matter.

That's true, you haven't bashed anyone elses opinions on the matter. On the other hand, it appears you haven't even considered them, which is, if anything, even worse - and pure fundie.

I have mixed feelings about this one. On the one hand, (if she's not lying) she seems to have a healthy, general aversion to hatred, which I find highly commendable, and all too rare even among non-fundies. On the other hand, she displays obvious contempt and revulsion toward all aspects of homosexuality, even when forcing herself to interact with homosexuals in a civilised way as if there were nothing wrong with them, and that can't be psychologically healthy.

She's still a self-identified fundie, though, and provides no reason for her overwhelming revulsion other than unjustified devotion to a stupid, unproven mess of contradictory, irrational bronze age myths. Strictly speaking, she should get a full 5 on the fundie meter, for her idiot religious beliefs and bigotry. I'm strongly inclined to drop that to a 4, though, because anyone who instinctively feels that destructive emotions like hatred should always be avoided is probably not a bad person.

I'm the same way with people who wear linen and wool at the same time. OK, call me a heterotextilephobic bigot ... I still say "screw the bastards"! I don't want my kids exposed to that sort of abomination.

Diaperswappers...?

"Also that if there lifestyle starts sparking odd questions amongst the boys then my hubby and I will probably discontinue visiting, etc..."

Yeah, right there, that's being a bigoted cunt. And so is not allowing your kids to play with the kids of same-sex couples. Talk about great family values and moral fiber.

It's about the most polite and civil way to maintain a xenophobic worldview.

Sure, I and I assume most people here don't like it, but let's try not to lump him in with seriously fundamentalist fundies. (Though he still clearly is a fundie...)

Fek'lhr, that's your prerogative. It sucks to expose kids to it, but if they're her kids, what can we do? I'm just saying, she can express her opinion. If she's polite, we should respond in kind and express our opinions just as politely.
