Quote# 42499

Our pastor made it clear from the beginning that he is all about Jesus, and that everything he teaches is from the Bible. It's nice, because we're a "semi-mega church" -- many mega churches take on the Joel Osteen model of acceptance and prosperity. Ours does not. We've got a great band and lots of programs, but the center of our church universe is Christ.

I think that the general perception around our country is that if you believe in End Times and talk about Biblical prophecies pertaining to the Rapture or Trib, people think you're a nut job. It's so sad.

I also think that the Rapture and Trib force people to listen/know that it's all about choosing sides -- you're either with Jesus or you aren't. The bulk of our population is that "universalist" mentality -- everyone is saved. So by bringing up the End Times and Rapture, you're contradicting their peaceful, happy, all-accepting doctrine of faith.

I'll pray for them all...

"Our pastor made it clear from the beginning that he is all about Jesus, and that everything he teaches is from the Bible."

Except those parts that need to be "interpreted" where he inserts personal opinion.

"It's nice, because we're a "semi-mega church" -- many mega churches take on the Joel Osteen model of acceptance and prosperity."

Yeah, well, if you want to keep those "love offerings" flowing in then you're going to have to be less dogmatic and more wishy-washy in order to dupe a larger portion of the population. Not everyone is as brain dead as you Rapture Ready folks are.

"Ours does not. We've got a great band and lots of programs, but the center of our church universe is Christ."

So you follow all of his teachings? You know, those about loving everyone, not pointing out flaws in others, not "casting the first stone" at sinners (in other words, shut the fuck up about gays and anyone else you don't like; it's not your place to judge) and all the rest of what he was trying to get into the thick heads of those around him?

"I think that the general perception around our country is that if you believe in End Times and talk about Biblical prophecies pertaining to the Rapture or Trib, people think you're a nut job. It's so sad."

Belief in unsupported assertions tends to make rational people point and laugh at you. Just like you point and laugh at the Muslims, Hindus, Jews and everyone else you think is following a mythology riddled, superstitious religion. We just recognize that you're doing the same fucking thing.

"I also think that the Rapture and Trib force people to listen/know that it's all about choosing sides -- you're either with Jesus or you aren't."

Show Jesus existed as described in the Bible. Show any sort of "Rapture" or "Tribulation" will occur.

"The bulk of our population is that "universalist" mentality -- everyone is saved. So by bringing up the End Times and Rapture, you're contradicting their peaceful, happy, all-accepting doctrine of faith."

And looking like an utter lunatic. Don't forget that part.

"I'll pray for them all..."

Perhaps you should do less praying and more thinking.

We're not all evil cultists worshiping Death (which is renamed to Jesus). Get over it.

I love how they have cute pet names for their pet gems of nuttiness... "Trib"... They should call it "Rapty" and refer to Jesus as "Jessy".

Allow me to correct that.....
I think that the general perception around our country is that if you believe in End Times and talk about Biblical prophecies pertaining to the Rapture or Trib, people think you're a nut job. And they're right on the money with that one.

You have something against people being peaceful and happy?

Just another way of saying that all they really have is their sense of elitism and bigotry. They wouldn't be able to feel special if everyone was saved so they actually secretly adore the idea that anyone outside their little bubble is quite literally toast.

It's one thing that if this predicting the end times was a new kind of phenomenon, but smart people know by now that end of time predictions are bogus because people have been predicting the end of the world for centuries and have ALWAYS been wrong. Now it's like the boy who cried wolf.

[The bulk of our population is that "universalist" mentality -- everyone is saved.]

Please explain what would be so horrible about everyone eventually being saved? Do you really think you're that much better than anyone else?

The bulk of our population is that "universalist" mentality -- everyone is saved.

Well, that would be in keeping with an ever-loving, all-forgiving God.
Wouldn't it?

I also think that the Rapture and Trib force people to listen/know that it's all about choosing sides -- you're either with Jesus or you aren't

Reminds me of Bush:
You are either with us or against us

And it is absolutely nonsense, as choosing sides would include that you knew for certain that both sides exist. Well, for the existence of Jesus and God (as described in the bible) we have no proof and the belief in the literal truth of the bible even contradicts reality.
So universalism seems to be the sanest religion, considering all we know (and not know) ;)

Allegory for Jesus

It is so sad that ranting about Bible prophecies about the end times contrary to fact and completely ignorant to the thousands of people doing the same and who have been doing the same for centuries past are deemed to be insane. I cry for you...

So you'll all sit in your million-dollar pews, frittering your lives away praying for an event that is never going to happen.

Suit yourself. Keeps you out of my face, anyway.

"I also think that the Rapture and Trib force people to listen/know that it's all about choosing sides"

Choosing sides is the whole point...

Andras, Leraje, and all the other strife/conflict demons must be having a field day.

Beyond that, I think Jubilee's missing something important here. Namely, that choosing your "side" is supposed to be a means to an end (which, in this case, would be achieving the same philosophy as the Christ), not the end itself.

One non-dispensationalist Christian, in "Grand Theft Jesus", calls this a form of Christianity Lite. Considering that there's mostly preparation for war, but not much for peace, I'd say it fits here.

Yeah, we can't have anybody being peaceful, happy, or accepting.

Better pray that they end up like you.

I also think that the Rapture and Trib force people to listen/know that it's all about choosing sides

Which side? Post-trib premillennialism, mid-trib premillennialism, pre-trib premillennialism, pre-wrath premillennialism, postmillennialism with preterism, postmillennialism without preterism, amillennialism or what? We're waiting for you to kill each other off. Then we're going with the winner.

"So by bringing up the End Times and Rapture, you're contradicting their peaceful, happy, all-accepting doctrine of faith" and their BIBLE which contains NOTHING about the rapture and says "not even the angels know when". It is sad because you are nutjobs who base your litmus test for Christianity on ideas that's aren't even in the Bible.
