Quote# 4337

Unfortunately, I think this is the problem. Liberal Christians don't take God's word in its entirety, they think it fallible. They are 'cherry-pickers' and only believe in the parts of the Bible that fit their agenda.

Huh, this sounds a lot like the religious right.

You mean like the ones who quote one part of Leviticus to support gay-bashing, but ignore the parts about eating shellfish or wearing certain types of fabric?

4/11/2007 3:41:06 AM

Project much?!

4/11/2007 10:37:03 AM

You mean, like ignoring the part where Jesus says take care of the poor and helpless, and talking about all the bloody vengence instead?

4/12/2007 5:57:03 PM

doomie 22

So I assume Magus also sacrifices goats on an alter since the bible says god likes the smell of dead goats.

El Guapo

All Christians (even fundies) do this.

Ranger Joe

Turn the other cheek? Remove the beam in thine eye? DONT EAT SHELLFISH?!?!

Nope. Just hate the homos and like killin' brown people.

Magus55 is retarded.

Average Guy

How many Christians do you know that don't eat pork or only eat unleavened bread?

11/12/2008 5:24:50 PM

Again, this had better be written from a library computer...

@El Guapo
ESPECIALLY the fundies. They find one shoehorned verse to justify bigotry or hatred, and they latch onto it like a rabid pitbull. At least moderate Christians will admit that they take most of the Bible as allegory.

11/12/2008 5:27:25 PM

a mind far far away

All christians do this. Liberal, conservative, fundmendalist, evangelical, traditionalist, charismatic, etc. It's just that the liberals pick out the GOOD parts, and leave the junk behind, while fundamentialist and other conservatives take the shiteating, cocksucking junk, and leave the good stuff behind.

Another one bites the dust, time to buy a new irony meter again.

11/12/2008 5:47:08 PM

So, Magus55, you're out there actively stoning gays, rebellious teenagers, non-virgin brides, shell-fish eaters, etc.? If not, then aren't you cherry picking too?

i like how they think everyone has an agenda but them. they only believe everyone should be like them. the same way i liked the retarded guy at school. gets old quickly.

Maybe this is in response to people like me who have pointed out many times how fundies (especially Rapturerites) never use Bible verses in any contextual flow. Evangelists preachers hop all over the Bible, verse from here, verse from there, never, say, even ten verses in a row.

All of them, and all their sheep follow that pattern. This is one of the main reasons they came in in polls as the group that least knows whats in the Bible, below moderate Christian and Atheists. It's them that embraced the concept of Bible Codes also, as an excuse for their dogma that's not supported by the Bible.

Again I plead to all you religious folk: Start "in the beginning" and read every verse in order until you finish. None of you, EVEN YOUR PREACHERS have ever done this.

However it is perfectly cool for your lot to stockpile apologetics which keep you from having to follow the actual words of your supposed savior.

Liberal Christians have been on the front line of every civil rights movement in our nation's history. Their opponents were conservative Christians. If the conservatives are really the ones who are taking god's word in its entirety then they can have it!

5/2/2012 6:21:21 AM

Every single Christian ever cherry-picks which parts of the Bible they prefer. You just prefer the parts which let you be an asshole.

Quantum Mechanic

Never actually read that ludicrous work of fiction, have you?

Baked Goods

...I think this is the problem. Liberal Christians don't take God's word in its entirety...

You better not be a mixed fabric wearing wine drinker then.

4/22/2013 5:50:15 PM

He's right you know. It is the Liberal Christians that give religion a veneer of respectability. Religion is dying. If the fundie view was all that the world saw of religion, it would die off that much quicker, for the benefit of all humanity

Dr. Weird

Typical Modern-day Fundie Logic:

The Bible is the inerrant, literal word of God when it talks about the Earth being created in six days and homosexuality being an abomination. The Bible is a flawed work interpreted by errant humans when it talks about loving your neighbor, turning the other cheek, and the evils of greed, polyester, and shellfish.
