I'd like to see English be made the official language of the United States, actually. It would help if everyone could communicate with one another effectively, and immigrants should be given free courses in English communication skills. That's not to say that they can't retain their own native languages, but I do think it would help unify our society if we all spoke the same language and had the ability to communicate clearly with one another.

Logically, everyone speaking the same language is a reasonable idea. It would avoid communication error. But.......
Just read what "Darth Vader" said.

According to a friend of mine, who knows 5 different languages, English was the easiest to pick up a basic use (grammar and spelling took a while though) since the majority of words were taken from other languages.

You know SPanish has been spoken longer in the U.S. than English.

I'm referring to the SouthWest United States and Florida, of course.

A cultural lesson I thought I might share. I'm sure the Native-Americans weren't to thrilled when we refused to speak their language.

Even if that were true, you notice that Americans don't even speak english, they speak American? If you were officially speaking english, you'd have to go back to school and put e's on the end of ax and s's in words like hospitalized in place of the z and you'd need to spell color with a u.

How do you feel about making english an official language now?
