One of my favorite former students is peaceful, calm and generous. He started a chapter of Food, Not Bombs in this area as a high school sophomore. He is an amazing young man. Unfortunately, he is on my prayer list as one of the lost. His girlfriend was Wiccan (still is, but no longer his girlfriend), and he began to listen to her anti-Christian propaganda. I fear for his soul. I pray for him a lot.
He says he used to be a strong believer, and it's not that he doesn't believe in Jesus, he just wants to be tolerant. I'm terrified he won't be in the Rapture. I'm praying the Holy Spirit will bring him to God.

Let's see, despite being romantically involved with a Wiccan, this young man still believes in Jesus, is trying to be more tolerant and open towards others, has a pleasant personality, and is working to bring relief to those who need it.
BA here is afraid that because he does not dogmatically accept the same beliefs s/he does, the student is a lost cause.
Who's more like Jesus in this case?
Awww iddums boo, one of your brainwashed woke up and you don't like it. He and she are both kind decent people. Wicca is not Anti-Christian.
BTW, according to your own doctrine, being self righteous is a major no no.
Why worry, BA? If he's not good enough for God based on his actions in life, and not good enough simply because he failed to profess blind faith in one strict and specific doctrine, then why worry? If he's not good enough for God, then he shouldn't be good enough for you to worry about either.
(Or are we hearing a little voice in the back of your head protesting that God isn't fair? Nah, couldn't be, you're on RR...)
So according to you, only assholes get raptured. Because he is kind and generous and respectful of others' beliefs, God is going to reject him? You don't see anything wrong with this "theology"? By the way, who the hell are you to make any kind of decision about who is "lost"? It sounds like this "lost student" is actually living out his beliefs instead of hiding behind a computer making judgements about the state of everyone else's soul.
So somebody who's no longer dating a Wiccan, and just wants to be nice to people, is gonna burn?
@Jay-Sus: Of course Wicca is anti-Christian. It doesn't involve condemning people and feeling self-righteous. As for nature, God put us here to exploit everything and we don't have to worry about driving our SUVs half a mile to church because Jebus is going to come back before we screw the place up too badly; thus worrying about the environment demonstrates a lack of faith! See how it all makes sense when you stand everything on its head?
1. He starts a charity
2. He has non-Christian friends
3. He is open-minded
4. He is still a Christian
Oh yeah, Jesus would just hate this guy.
I'm terrified he won't be in the Rapture.
Blessed, I have some really really bad news for you - you won't be in the Rapture either.
You know, BA, if you back him into a corner and witness to him as forcefully as you can for an hour or so, them attempt to exorcise him in Jesus' name, maybe the devil will leave him and he'll return to the true path!
He only needs to see how a "true Christian" such as youself behaves, and he'll make the right choice, I assure you.
(If I'm a bit less than usually tolerant of f***wads today, it's because of the Knoxville shooting.)
Ah, so the rapture is reserved for the intolerant . Please understand, Bl.Ass., that we tolerant folks wish you would disappear exactly as much as you do.
THE RAPTURE WILL NOT HAPPEN UNTIL YOU DRINK THE KOOL-AID! HOW MANY TIMES DO WE NEED TO TELL YOU THIS BEFORE IT SINKS IN?
This "amazing young man" has demonstrated that he understands what Jesus was trying to preach. Too bad you think he is "lost". You missed the whole point, didn't you?
The OP's sincere belief in intolerance as an essential trait is the real tragedy of indoctrination (of any kind). Someone who very clearly wants to do good, be good, and help others to be good believes something that hurts themselves and their friendship.
Definitely fundie, but probably one of the victims of the system rather than a villain.
He wants to be a decent and caring human being and not a god-fearing, self-centred, idiot crapturetard whose only concern is with death. Yeah, I can see where he's going wrong.
/snark
Peaceful, calm, generous, concerned about others, believes in Jesus. Well no wonder he stands condemned.
I'm more interested in your stalking techniques.
Teach me, oh master of morality, the way to talk about people behind their backs.

Damn you, now I want some bananas.
(They ARE Beethoven's favorite fruit, you know.)
If he started a Food not Bombs chapter in high school, it's likely that he's already done more good that whole churchloads of chrisitians will do in a lifetime.
Sadly, doing good things for others doesn't mean much to the average christian, and it means nothing to your clergy. Just believe, like a good little shithead!
I'm a Wiccan and I'm actually going to church tonight because of my great respect for the beliefs of my Christian and other Abrahamic-practicing friends.
You fail so hard.
At least you see Food Not Bombs as good.
That's actually kind of surprising, considering what fundies think of activism that isn't squarely on the Right.
Oh no! He wants to listen to what Jesus says in the Bible instead of just hating everything our pastor hates! He is doomed.
"Love thy neighbor as yourself." "That which you do unto the least of my people, you do unto me."
Ring a bell, BlessedAssurance? They both spell TOLERANCE.
How do you know that the girlfriend had anti-Christian propaganda? I have friends who are Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, and we seldom use propaganda towards each other.
"He says he used to be a strong believer, and it's not that he doesn't believe in Jesus, he just wants to be tolerant. I'm terrified he won't be in the Rapture. I'm praying the Holy Spirit will bring him to God."
Oh no! You mean he's still a Christian but because he's being nice and tolerant as opposed to a bigoted asshole, he won't get into heaven. Wait a minute... I'm tolerant too! No! I'm doomed!
He's closer to the model of a proper Christian than you'll ever be, without actually being a believer himself. You're pathetic, Blessed. You want to destroy his tolerance, convince him that Skygod and Bible are more important than anti-war, pro famine relief attitudes?
Fuck you. You're anti-human trash at its finest.
@Professor M: Anarchist, communist, vegan, actually. I don't think communism is a requirement or anything, but it's definitely a social-anarchist organisation and serves vegan food. If the guys who originally founded FNB (who were anarcho-communists) introduced themselves to the RR crowd and began explaining their political beliefs I think they'd be lucky to survive.
I think the kid will be fine. If he is still a believer, he probably prays that you will come to understand Jesus' teachings and leave your little death cult.
"…he just wants to be tolerant. I'm terrified he won't be in the Rapture.”
So, YOUR view of Xianity is an intolerant mindset. Huh.
Maybe, just MAYBE the Holy Spirit already HAS brought him to Jesus?
You know, that guy that hung out with whores, healed the invaders, healed the guy that came to arrest him?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
