(Obama doesn't give his kids christmas or birthday presents)
PS My father, who was thinking about voting for Obama, is now convinced he really isn't a Christian. He said that this seemed like code for, "we just don't celebrate the birth of Jesus. Oh and don't worry, we don't celebrate our kid's births either."

They do know, of course, that Christmas was originally not about their Christ. Celebrations and festivities of various sorts around that time of year has been going on long before that. Then the Christians came and took over.
Oh, and some people shouldn't be allowed to vote. There. I said it.
We need to understand that when stupid, uninformed idiots get to have a say in who should be one of the most powerful leaders in the world, then something is very wrong.
The only reason for not counting the JW's as Christian is that they don't believe in the Trinity.
I might be a bit soft about JWs more than most fundies because I used to live next door to a couple of them who seemed to be very nice people. No hassle, maybe they just don't crap on their own doorsteps. It was interesting that the first year they moved in (as an atheist) I took them a 'Seasons Greetings' card around, they said 'thanks but we don't celebrate Christmas' and I said' Well, neither do I'. We got on really well after that, we were just polite and kept ourselves to ourselves. Although their anti-blood donor thing is weird.
Why would Obama not giving Christmas presents suggest he isn't a Christian? I thought hard-core Christian fundies were against celebrating Christmas - another one of those shibboleths to prove they're the real Christians.
If somebody prefers McCain and his politics, why don't they just say so instead of trying to invent stupid, off-the-wall rationalizations that make them look like morons?
Like any of this is relevant when considering a canidate for President.

Actually ordinary folk converted and celebrated their new theological understandings on the same days they had always celebrated (along with encouragement from an Roman Emperor seeing political usefulness of a new faith system) and why shouldn't they?.....let's not get as paranoid as the fundies now....
The "Christians" were not some invading race - they were often genuine conversions to a new faith (under threat of real deadly persecution when they did!)
It's just the present fundie revisionists who may not be human....Let's not join in their rewriting of history. :-)

Nor do Westerners celebrate the day of their kids' conceptions, their name days (with exceptions), the day they graduated from college, etc. So the feck what? They still love their kids.

I read some of the other stuff on this site - it's just rep-fundie Obama bashing. Some allude to the fact that Europeans like him (it could be something to do with the fact he's articulate and not arrogant), and that all Europeans are socialist.
Apart from the sheer libel written on the site, I'd like to point out that non-latin Europe keeps Christmas traditionally. For example, the 50ft tree in Prague old town square along with the carollers, mulled wine etc, sort of gives it away.
