(about walmart warning employees against voting for Obama)
I'll be shopping at Wal-Mart more often. Even though I can't stand the crowds or the fact that it takes me 3 hours to finish my shopping there!

They'd be boycotting their favorite store if it had been the other way around. Imagine the fundie outcry if Wal-Mart had urged employees to vote for Obama. The posts at RR would be saying shit like, "and I thought Wal-Mart stood for real American family values *insert sad face, head shaking, puking, eye rolling and crying emoticons here to drive the point home*"
I dunno how it works in the US, but over here in the UK I'm pretty certain that sort of shit is illegal or at least a civil offense.
I bet cameobrio here considers himself a patriot. Yet he is supporting an organisation that is interfering with the institution and practices that Americans are supposed to be so proud of.
I saw this as a signature: I believe I can inspire Americans to serve a cause greater than their self-interests. John McCain
If that doesn't convince people to vote for Sen. Obama, nothing will.
@Laura - I heard this on the radio yesterday. Wal-Mart is telling their employees not to vote for Obama because he is pro-union and might not let Wal-Mart get away with its usual union-busting activities. The company is telling employees that unions would be bad because the employees would have to pay expensive union dues, might be asked to strike, and might lose their jobs if unions insisted on higher wages.
Obama = Bad
Severely shitty working conditions in Chinese factories to make that cheap crap in Walmart = OK?
I'd rather buy American if I have a choice about it, thanks.
um.. why the fuck does it take you 3 hours to finish shopping at Wal-Mart?
I expect that every time the PA system goes off, they think it's the rapture and spend 20 minutes in a confused daze waiting for the sky to open up.
Yes, please, keep sending your cash over to China so they can continue to lock up Africa's mineral reserves, buy up our debt, expand their manufacturing, and laugh at quaint liberal Western notions of worker's rights and environmental policies. Long term for the U.S. and Europe that's so much better than a Democratic administration.
Ugh. Wal-Mart disgusts me more and more... Of course these idiots would support them. I bet they don't even understand why the stores don't want their employees to vote for Obama. Really, these guys should be wanting Democrats to help the workers because some of these morons have to be stuck working at Sprawl-Mart.
Shop WalMart: Support the export of what remains of your manufacturing sector to China.
I've never heard of an employer the size of WalMart telling their employees whom to vote for. (though it's not surprising) I know people who have worked in small firms (accounting, law), being subjected to that.
This may or may not be legal, but Wal-Mart mostly ignores laws that they don't like, especially the ones involving how they can treat workers. They even have a whole indoctrination system set up -- the workers who can be convinced that everything the company does is morally unassailable by definition are the ones who get promoted.
holy shit!! OK, I only ever get my prescriptions filled at Hell Mart anymore, but I think I'm going to transfer them elsewhere now. >:|
The company I used to work for was also anti-union, I wonder if they're also trying to pull this shit?
Also, I can see how it might take someone 3 hours to shop there--I need a cattle prod just to get through the one in my town. x_x
I went to Wal-Mart a few times, and everything I bought there was shit. None of it lasted more than six months.
Thanks for the links, Joules. I knew Wal-Mart was evil, but I had no idea just how deep their depravity ran.

Oh yeah, unions are BAAAD, they might give the employees livable wages, right to express their opinion at work, a safe working environment both ergonomically and mentally.
I thought you had a democracy over there? Is it really allowed to warn employees about their votes? It's bad on so many levels, both ethically and legally.
I'm once again happy that we don't have any Wal-Marts over here.
Confused?
