[About a news article using the word "rapture"]
Just curious-does the secular world have a different meaning of the word "rapture"? For example-in the secular world, 777 means "lucky", while Christians interpret it as The Cross.
Either way-I always wonder too-maybe God allowed this word to be put into this article to let us know the end is right around the corner?

I don't have a dictionary on me, but I imagine it means ecstasy/happiness. I personally would use the word to describe a great joy, bordering on delirium.
What you have, on the other hand, goes WAY beyond mere delusion.
I thought 777 meant "big plane", or perhaps "full access", but my South African friend tells me it's used a lot by a bunch of racist dickheads where he came from. So you may be right.
And "rapture" means to be siezed or carried away by someone/something. Which is also from where we get the word "rape" (and "raptor").
Yes, "rapture" describes the joy we'll feel when the fundies disappear from the face of the Earth.
Unfortunately, that won't happen anytime soon.
"Rapture of the deep" is nitrogen narcosis.
Otherwise, rapture is sharing an orgasm while high on windowpane and listening to Hendrix.
Grigadil - ""Rapture of the deep" is nitrogen narcosis."
Methinks they'll get the bends, instead, as there will be a sudden decrease in pressure when they are hoovered up through the atmosphere. It shouldn't last too long once they get into space, though, what with the hypoxia and all.
If they hold their breath, though, there could be a lot of cases of Fundie explosive decompression.
That would be like fireworks, wouldn't it?
@ Scotty
Yeah, I don't think they took the atmospheric pressure into account when they planned that trip.
Not a pretty sight to behold, or even contemplate. Well, at least they'll go out with a "bang".

What happened to flaming pillars of smoke and fire and booming voices from the sky? Seems your god is reduced to placing poorly coded messages in news articles. Oh how the mighty have fallen, eh?
rapture
1600, "act of carrying off," from M.Fr. rapture, from M.L. raptura "seizure, rape, kidnapping," from L. raptus "a carrying off" (see rapt). Originally of women and cognate with rape (v.). Sense of "spiritual ecstasy" first recorded 1629.
Brings a whole new meaning to them being "Rapture ready" doesn't it?

And the corner after that, And the corner after that, And the corner after that, And the corner after that, And the corner after that, And the corner after that, And the corner after that e.t.c
In the secular (or at least nerdy) world, "Rapture" is a large, underwater city founded November 5, 1946 within the fictional continuity of popular FPS "Bioshock."
From an Online dictionary
1: an expression or manifestation of ecstasy or passion
2 a: a state or experience of being carried away by overwhelming emotion b: a mystical experience in which the spirit is exalted to a knowledge of divine things
3often capitalized : the final assumption of Christians into heaven during the end-time according to Christian theology
Quote Michael:
"In Arabic numerals the number 6 looks like a european 7.
So the The Cross is actually symbolised as 666.
There is one BornAgain every minute."
Absolutely true (about the numbering system and the last sentence)
In the Judy garland version of "The Wizard of Oz," The Scarecrow cries, "Rapture" when he realizes he has a brain. Proof positive that god created the movie and that The Rapture will transport people, not to heaven, but to Oz.
Confused?
