The Bible doesn't consider plants to be living, so I don't either.

See, that's the trouble with believing everything you read in bronze age documents. Turns out they're wrong on occasion. Who knew, right?
jezus killed a fig tree?
Lynch the fucker.

the beast, the tree, the man.
The air shares its spirit with
all the life it supports."

The native Americans were quite wise. They knew nothing of Christianity until it was forced on them.
The Bible doesn't consider plants to be living *. From this you conclude:
a) plants aren't living
b) the Bible was written by ignorant humans rather than God.
Guess which one fundies choose ...
* assuming, ad arguendo, that this is actually true ...
Plants are capable of reproduction, with is the fundamental characteristic of life. They also have all of the other characteristics of life. Thus, they are very much alive.
Consciousness does not define life. If it did, then many of the lower animals, including insects, reptiles, amphibians, etc. wouldn't be 'alive'.
You can object all you want, but plants are alive. Neither you nor the bible can disprove that.
If that's the kid who was supposed to water my plants last time we went away on a trip, that would account for an awful lot.
No, dear, you're not getting the second half of the money by quoting Bible at me...
And how is it possible that you use a computer, that not only it's not mentioned in the Bible but also which is built thanks to the same science that determined that plants are living beings?. If you're so uptight to the Bible, be consequent and live in a dessert in the middle east.
So what are they then? Like rocks?
Life: a: the quality that distinguishes a vital and functional being from a dead body b: a principle or force that is considered to underlie the distinctive quality of animate beings c: an organismic state characterized by capacity for metabolism, growth, reaction to stimuli, and reproduction
Plants aren't alive? But they seem to be... they must surely be...
ZOMBIES!
That said, quietly listening to my gladioli, I'm sure I can hear the faint whisper of 'bran, braaaan...'
I'm guessing he's going with the "The blood is the life" quote, Leviticus 17:14 et al.
He should keep it up. The more people encounter this kind of nonsense, the fewer will fall for the 'infallible bible' myth.
This comes from Noah's instructions. he was told to save the creatures that have the breath of life in their nostrils.
Several verses make it clear that the breath of life is how the spirit enters the body. Before that breath, the body is just dross matter, not 'alive.'
That's why the Ark didn't have to carry plants, insects, fish, slugs, whales, spiders, butterflies, basilisks...
a consequence of this stance, though, is that abortion is conducted before the baby takes first breath. So what's being removed from the womb is not alive, not yet. As long as that first breath hasn't occurred (such as if lungs haven't been developed yet), it's not killing.
Confused?
