During his sermon yesterday on the Rapture (my wife and I could have sat there all day listening!) our Pastor was speaking about the deterioration of behaviors in society. He told us how his Saturday had started. He explained he received a call from a gentleman who had one of our church tracts left on his door recently. Pastor said the man demanded we stop putting tracts on his door or he'd sue, to which pastor replied, "God bless you and ok (meaning: sue)." Pastor then said the man screamed and cursed him out over the phone.
The idea that he would behave so poor to anyone, but towards a Pastor? I'm glad it wasn't me that answered the phone for that call - I'm afraid I would not have been able to handle it as politely as Pastor did.

It's Fundi because they can't seem to understand that not everyone will agree with their moronic Rapture.
The Pastor is using it as an excuse for "Evil\Endtimes" when it's really "We won't stop being annoying pricks and people are fed up with us."
The caller was rude. OK, I'll give you that.
However, the tracts had been left on his door without his permission, and he was within his rights to ask the Pastor not to do it anymore.
Furthermore, the Pastor flatly refused to stop, despite being told to do so by the (presumably) legal owner of the property.
It's not the end of the world (pun intended), but the Pastor WAS in the wrong.
"The idea that he would behave so poor to anyone, but towards a Pastor?"
No sillier than the idea that someone would be stupid enough to pay money for something that only drives people away from your religion, and fucking litters.
Your religion gives you the right to harrass people with unwanted literature?
I doubt you are aware, but your Rapture is a very late heresy that crept into Christianity in the 1800s, promulgated by a certain Mr. Miller, who was making a business out of selling Rapture Robes.... He promised upmteen Raptures, none of which materialises.
Now you have attached yourself to such a vain hope. Jesus made a joke about end times when he 'prophesied' things that are happening all the time - wars, famine, earthquakes, storms... They always have, adn they always will. But you choose to scare yourself shitless with natural events. How Jesus must have enjoyed that joke! If he is who you say, he's probably chuckling away right now.
BTW, He didn't come back in the lifetime of those he promised his return to...
Why do these assholes leave tracts anywhere?
Are churches not in the yellow pages? Do they have no signs out front?
If I want to go, I will fucking go.
The caller was an asshole, but so was the pastor. I'd be pissed too if someone left tracts on my door and refused to stop leaving them around. However, I do think the situation could have been handled better.
Caller was not an asshole--he was well within his rights to advise them of their trespass and to use his free speech to express his frustration. Trespassing fundies are however. I don't understand why fundies think we have to or should respect a "pastor" It's just a name that a fundy takes on when he decides to start fleecing the flock instead of being fleeced.
So fuck you "pastor", you're all thieves and charlatans--I don't respect any of you.
"During his sermon yesterday on the Rapture (my wife and I could have sat there all day listening!)..."
Yeah, you could have sat there for the rest of your boring, miserable little lives and beyond, and you'd still be no closer to the cRapture.
P.S. Several years ago, some racist fucktards snuck in during the dead of night and left "white power" tracts all over our community. They were stupid enough to have their phone number and address printed on them. That was very helpful when my condo association had the leaders of this group arrested for littering and trespassing. Subsequently, the fines imposed by predictably progressive Montgomery County, MD, forced them to shut down their "office."
Try working on the phones in customer service. I learnt a long time ago that when a Church or religious organisation was on the phone I should prepare myself for a nasty piece of work. I've had a Nun swear at me (over binders of all things), received a horrible letter from a Vicar (because he was too stupid to use the internet) and decided that Christian charity workers need to look up the word "charity". So yeah, there's douchbags everywhere... so what is your point with regards to the Rapture exactly?
But my favourite conversation was with a Christian who owned... a Christian sex toys company!!
Stop pestering fucking people and your pastor wont get calls like that.
I really think a local Church of Satan should stuff little tracts in your church door on a weekly basis and see how you handle it. I can almost guarantee it would be on the news and you'd probably have some sort of "religious persecution" bullshit to bitch about.
So then you won't mind -- or sue -- if I leave some atheist, Satanist, Muslim, and pagan tracts on your doorstep?
Your pastor is a dick. Leader of a "church" full of dicks. Even your wimmenfolk are dicks.
{i]I'm glad it wasn't me that answered the phone for that call - I'm afraid I would not have been able to handle it as politely as Pastor did.
Oh, how cute! Are you a tough guy? Bring it on, bitch!
Pastor then said the man screamed and cursed him out over the phone.
Yeah... I'm willing to bet one of two things happened. Either your Pastor is lying for Jesus, which isn't too unlikely now, is it? Or, the man who called him "cursed" the Pastor in a "Fine, I'm gonna damn well sue you for littering and harrasment then"
Or, and this is a possibility... maybe he'd called several times to get you arseholes to stop littering his doorstep and being told "Go ahead and sue" to his latest request to stop got on his final nerve...
But all we've got to go on is your recollection of what the Pastor said happened... and both you AND your pastor are very likely to have "forgotten" a lot of the details...
@Xeno: No such thing as the Rapture? So you get to choose which ridiculous fantasies are the correct ones? I just wanted to make sure.
Why should a Pastor get special treatment? What makes him special? I am tired of having to respect the religiously learned.
I get so tired of people trying to claim this shit didn't happen fifty years ago. Hell, they act like this shit didn't happen five years ago. I'll tell a story.
About fifteen years ago I went with our youth "soul-winning" team to canvas a neighborhood with tracts and pamphlets about our church. We went to one house and this older man ran outside wearing nothing by tightie-whities and a wife beater pointing a double barrel shotgun at us threatening to blow our heads off if we left "anymore of that goddamn Jesus shit" on his door.
Yeah, we must have been seconds away from the crapture almost twenty years ago...right?
And your pastor couldn't possibly be exaggerating, or even fabricating the entire story whole cloth, in order to preserve your collective delusion of being persecuted.
After all, he's a pastor.
As someone who works in sales, and for an organization that routinely mails out letters and flyers, I can say this with total honesty and authority: yes, the story is true. No doubt about it.
I am threatened with litigation so often it has become a running joke, and the Pastor, whom I am assuming didn't mean that he wanted to be sued, he simply meant, "OK I'll stop mailing them, bless you anyway" was just fine on the phone, people just turn into crazed baboons the second they hear dial tone.
About two weeks ago, our doorbell rang early on Saturday or Sunday morning. Outside was a well-dressed, well-spoken woman with a teenage daughter (presumably) in tow. She offered me "something to read". When I saw it was the Swedish version of the Watchtower, I politely declined. She said "Are you sure? OK, thank you for opening the door." and walked to the neighbor's door.
If "Pastor" had done something like this, he would probably not get as many angry phone-calls. But instead the congregation chose to put litter on its neighbor's doormats.
What's an "ok"? OK is written with capital letters, ya know.
You behave poorly , don't you? But what do I know, I'm just a Swede, with English as my second language...
Slightly off-subject. My father did a lecture for the Scientology "church", some 40 or 50 years ago. He has always been involved in pedagogy and kindergartens. It was the subject at hand, not the group orchestrating it, that made him do it. Only five years ago, or so, did they finally stop pestering him with pamphlets, "information" and course suggestions.
@Swede
In America it is illegal to put information in someone's mailbox, so when someone wants to advertise their good or service to a neighborhood they have two choices, they can go door to door (and my guess is that this church, had the guy in question been home, would have done the same as your Watchtower walkers and asked to speak to him about Jesus, and politely walked away when told no) and leave information hanging on the door knob, or they can mail the info. Mailing can cost a ton of money that most groups don't have, so it is common place to come home to see Chinese menus, flyers for local mechanics and service schedules for churches. If you live in a large city, you don't even give it a second thought, let alone get angry about it.
And I love the idea that you need to treat a pastor with kiddy gloves. Hell, I had a pastor call my dad a "fucking asshole" on my wedding day*, so it is not like pastors can't handle a little foul language.
*This was after the pastor failed to show, and called after the wedding to demand payment. My dad took the call, since I was a little preoccupied with the whole reception thing to talk, and said, "No way we are paying you" and the pastor replied with the above and hung up. God's work, my friends, God's work.
Pastors do forget they're just people like everyone else because they feel elevated by the flock as special. They every so often get a reality check from the unindoctrinated, he's a waste of time Pastor and someone told him to stop wasting his time.
"his sermon yesterday on the Rapture (my wife and I could have sat there all day listening!)"
Because you've never heard it before,. No? You've heard it lots of times? Stop wasting your time.
Confused?
