The truth is that Christians know all too well of the danger of hell. Its one of the main reasons I became a Christian; for the fear of going to hell (call me selfish).

I don't call someone selfish for trying to save his own existence when it is threatened, such as a store clerk giving up the cash box to an armed robber. That's just survival instinct.
However, I do call it mental cowardice and intellectual laziness to give in when the threat is one that makes absolutely no sense at all, which is what the "eternal fire" threat amounts to. A loving God, a just God, simply could not do such a thing; so either the deity is actually nonexistent (and thus pointless to worship) or is actually evil and tyrannical (and thus unworthy of worship, though perhaps worthy of appeasement -- but let's call it what it is).

Fear is not a reason to worship someone. In fact "worshiping" soemone out of fear alone, IMO, isn't even worship. You don't truley belive he is deserving of it you're simply paying him lip serivce out of fear. Therefore you are also kind of lying when you worship him. SO ironically if you became a Christian out of fear of hell then you're still going to hell!
I find it tragic that so many of these sad little people who call themselves Christians* start out with fear of death/hell and end up going full circle so that they are so fearful of life that they are begging for their fantasy rapture to take them away from it all, so they never need to engage with the world and lead productive lives.
It's such a waste of human potential and so often produces such bigoted, hateful, and downright evil individuals.
[* I don't consider them to be Christians. The real Christians I know are out trying to help the poor, save the planet, and being useful, not out of fear of hell, but out of love and compassion]
Fear is a wonderful premise upon which to build an imaginary afterlife, yes indeedy. Fear is a wonderful slave-control tool, along with guilt and shame.
I fail to understand why this coward should be proud of himself.
I think selfish isn't the word. Gullible and cowardly are a better fit. Or just stupid as fuck. Honestly, why would you buy into Christianity due to fear of Hell when, if you don't believe in Christianity, you don't believe that there is a Hell for you to suffer in? And if you fall for a Pascal ploy, how could you be so near-sighted to not realize that "worship this way or suffer" is an argument that could be used on behalf of nearly every religion known, every religion that will ever be, and every religion that ever could be? Incredible folly.
Ah, the eternity of torture -- the only just way to punish even the slightest misdeed.
"What you do unto the least of these, you do unto me." Damned if I can remember who said that.
Selfish, no.
Misguided, cowardly, gullible, daft, yes.

Have you actually been there? Unless you have a "Sliders"-style dimensional portal generator handy, I'm afraid you're just talking a load of bollocks, Descry.
Confused?
