Actually this Rome argument is more Hollywood that history. The Roman Empire lasted until the year 1452, when it's then capital, Constantinople was overrun by the Turks. So Rome lasted 1000 years longer than people give credit for.
Good grief, there's always one or two right-wing fucktards on every post on RHRC. This part of the first comment jumped right out at me:
"A better way to help women is to educate them on the consequences of having intercourse."
Something tells me that women having sex with men who are not him, and not getting punished with an unwanted child for it, bothers this guy immensely.

Not to mention the barbarian hordes the empire was just too bloated to keep out anymore. And let's nip the popular myth that the Christians caused it people. Non-Christians and non-theists just need to get over that one. While it would be a neat little bow on a package to scapegoat the Christians with the fall, it's just not true. And it's as ludicrous as listening to them blame "moral decay."

CONTEXT
"They" = The pro-choice people who write for and comment at Reproductive Health Reality Check.
RHRC is a pro-choice, reproductive-rights advocating site that the pro-life fundies love to post insane, hateful things at.
The post that Truth Returns is responding to is someone's joking response to a similarly insane anti-choice rant that went on and on about how abortion dismembers babies and women who abort are like Jack the Ripper, etc. Someone responded that they would like to dismember that ranter so that they wouldn't spew such nonsense. That is what Truth Returns is freaking out about in this post.
