Sorry for the long post here, folks, but one of my aussie friends put it better than I ever could have, and it also helps with the context, if anyone's missed it:
Thanks for your opinion, now shut up.
PONCE DE LEON, Fla. - When a high school senior told her principal that students were taunting her for being a lesbian, he told her homosexuality is wrong, outed her to her parents and ordered her to stay away from children.
"We are a small, rural district in the Bible Belt with strong Christian beliefs and feel like homosexuality is wrong," said Steve Griffin, Holmes County's school superintendent, who keeps a Bible on his desk and framed Scriptures on his office walls.
TRUE BELIEEEVAAAH.
Believe what you want, but outing the girl to her parents and (what the FUCK?!) ordering her to stay away from kids is just reprehensible.
We just had "World Youth Day" or some shit here in Australia. I'd like to know what Christianity in specific has to offer youth, aside from "saving them", because it seems to support the destruction of respect, privacy and care that the youth of this world deserve.
Seriously, some idiot pastor or something extolled the "spiritual" benefits of love, tolerance and so on, so forth (saying that these were spiritual benefits themselves). Sorry- no, I really am, because I have now and have had plenty of religious friends- but these things aren't related to religion (to interchange it with "spiritual"). These are humanist values, things that come to us naturally. Religion in general is one of the biggest creators of bigotry, hatred, violence and arrogance. So cram your insulting bullshit, Rev. Condescending.
In short, you don't need to be religious- sure as hell not Christian- to love, tolerate and aid other people.
But if the principal here, say, wasn't a Christian, would he have been such a wanker?
The friends donned gay pride T-shirts and rainbow-colored clothing when they found out how Davis had treated [the senior he outed], and he questioned many of them about their sexuality and association with gay students. Some were suspended.
"Davis embarked on what can only be characterized as a 'witch hunt' to identify students who were homosexual and their supporters, further adding fuel to the fire," U.S. District Judge Richard Smoak recounted in his ruling. "He went so far as to lift the shirts of female students to insure the letters 'GP' or the words 'Gay Pride' were not written on their bodies."
Fucking maniac, and he did it because of his Christian sensibilities. Love, tolerance and suck my ass...
Don't try to say "he doesn't represent all christians!" or anything to that effect. Point is, he got his inspiration from the Bible and he acted on the "orders" he read in His word.
And he represents a big swathe of you guys, so quit lying. I'm sick of reading fundies saying crap like "we know what you atheists say about us behind our backs!" when the absurd shit we have to deal with is fucking PUBLIC.
A few whackjob fundies say bad things about atheists, and they "don't represent the whole" but a serious anti-Christian has a rant somewhere and suddenly every non-Church-goer is in cohorts with him.
I'm pissed off, if you hadn't noticed.
